Bucks Draft (DJ) Selection Video

Submitted by Gameboy on

Here is a video of the Milwaukee Bucks drafting room on the day they selected DJ Wilson.

Pretty fascinating stuff as they went in to the day knowing that they were selecting DJ Wilson no matter what. They were worried that someone might jump ahead of them. DJ was a MUCH safer 1st round possibility than anyone around here thought.

Thanks for that OP. The nice thing about a clean program is watching fine young men like DJ benefit from it. Interesting that character was discussed. He'll do well there I hope.

Because D.J brings versatility to the table. It won't take long for him to supplant Greg Monroe at the 4. D.J, Jabari and Greek Freak will be a fun trio of youngsters to watch along with Thon Maker in the post. My biggest concern for D.J is if he went too early he would end up with some garbage team trapped in NBA purgatory. While the Bucks may not have enough to best the Cavs yet, at least they are a contender.

how they seemed to have a lot of interest from teams moving into that spot and thought everyone was trying to trade up for DJ.  Not sure if that was founded or if they just really liked him and were trying to convince themselves/were paranoid that everyone else liked him just as much.  From all the reports we heard in the weeks leading up to the draft, it did seem like DJs stock rose as much or more than anyones.

With Belein pumping out a consistent amount of 1st round picks will he start pushing harder for blue chip guys? One thing is for sure, you have to respect his eye to turn lower rated guys into NBA players.

The "blue chip guys" want money.  JB is running a clean program.  Even though he is producing pros at a higher rate than many coaches with a lot more highly-rated recruits, the best of the best would rather take the money right now instead of developing their skills at Michigan and being drafted higher.

this has been the question for the last 5 years and he hasn't waivered and will keep doing the same thing: go after the occassional 5 star guy that values education/his particular brand of basketball/fits the culture (like McGary, Bamba, Jaylen Brown and other guys that we'll still often finish second for) and will keep targeting his usual type of 3 and 4 stars: young, skilled, preferably long guys that have growing to do and could develop into 1st rounders. We just won't get many or any of the sure-fire first-rounders under Beilein, and he's not going to spend much time trying except for the special cases.
