Bucknut Recruiting Perspective

Submitted by True Blue in CO on
In an effort to follow our enemy here in the South, I caught this interesting update on 11Warriors. http://www.elevenwarriors.com/2011/10/11w-recruiting-notebook-1#comments The author has the belief that the Buckeyes have legitimate chances with Washington, Stanford, Pittman, Kozan, and Diamond. While Washington and Stanford may be legitimate due to proximity, I see delusions of grandeur here when you do not have a head coach confirmed for 2012 and they have not even offered Kozan. It will be fun to watch what happens here but I do not see how they round out a solid top 20 class with the swirl of uncertainty with the NCAA and the lack of a coaching commitment. (Edit: My personal opinions and wishes got in the way of clear thinking. Thanks to the Board for setting me straight.)

What is the status with Ifeadi Odenigbo? Last I saw, he was looking pretty solid to OSU as well. If they end up with Pittman, Washington and Odenigbo, that would be a hell of a pull dispite all of the uncertainty going on there.

Do not underestimate the power of the Death Star that is OSU to pull in recruits.  OSU has been the dominant brand in Ohio for most of the lives of today's seventeen year olds.

I don't understand why people are that suprised that kids from Ohio who grew up rooting for the Buckeys would still want to go there dispite all of the uncertainty.  The majority of readers here are probably from Michigan and grew up cheering for the maize and blue.  I feel like a vast majority of mgobloggers would still choose Michigan given the same circumstances.  I know I would...

The same mentality exists in Northeast Ohio, where I live, as it has all along.  TSIO is the only B1G school in Ohio, there are no other Major conference football schools (Cincy does not count), and if you live in the state of Ohio you are expected to root for the Buckeyes.  If you don't root for them for various reasons (say, maybe you graduated from Michigan) you are considered an idiot, people will make the most obnoxious and rude comments to you for simply wearing a Michigan shirt or hat without you saying a word.  Meanwhile, all you can do is what I do, Smile, and say....It's not my fault that you could not get into Michigan!

That usually shuts their sorry rear ends up, because they know damn well it is true about 99% of the time.
