i agree. people have their expectations too high. we have a lot of freshmen and a lot of holes. after last year we were all praying for a 6-6 year with a possible bowl game. now comes this year and a lot of people will be upset with 7 wins. we just all need to check our expectations. 6-6 after last season would be a solid year, 7-5 would be a good year.

I'm not sold we should have beaten NU last year (yes, they are NU). We were underdogs, they had one of their better teams of late. The other two, agreed. And it doesn't matter the expectations of last year. It's the results. 6-6 is a big step up from 3-9. I'd be more than happy with a 6-6 season. Anything else is icing on a cake.

It's getting negged for being dumb. "Well, we sould have been 6-6 if we hadn't gacked up these 3 games." It's like the Lions talking about how close they were in 7 of their losses - WE. STILL. LOST. That's what bad teams do - they lose games they can win. Turning those 3 swing games around won't be "luck" - it will "improvement" because we won't be handing games anymore. That's not a "step back". I can't describe how dumb what he said is.

yeah, but c'mon man you're one of the brighter guys on here. Last year if somebody thought we'd win no more than 5 games everyone would be negging them (if we had that then). So what is the difference between that and this? It's not dumb at all.

I don't think that believing we'll win more than 6 games is "dumb". I think his stated logic in reaching his conclusion is beyond idiotic. That's why it's dumb. You think we'll win 8 games? That argument can be made in a non-stupid way. This wasn't it.

I disagree. And I may just be hopelessly optimistic but we will be better than 6-6. I honestly think we have potential to get 8-9 wins. Great expectations? Maybe, but I also thought we'd get no more than 4-5 wins last year. We'll do well this year and transition to Big Ten titles for the next few. GO BLUE.

Hopelessly optimistic. Potential and reality are two different things. The season hasn't started. We have the "potential" to be national champs. Despite the Freep's best efforts, all we've heard is TATEFORCIEROMG and SUPERFASTANDSTRONGANDAMAZING. We'll make a bowl, but don't be surprised/upset with 6-6.

I just think it is funny though that because BTN says we'll be 6-6 now so many of you guys are reasoning to yourselves that we'll be 6-6 and anything better is impossible. I'm sure these were the same people who thought we'd get 9-10 wins last year and were surprised that we weren't good. And no, we don't have the potential to be national champs.

now so many of you guys are reasoning to yourselves that we'll be 6-6 and anything better is impossible. Nobody said this. There is a difference between saying "6-6 is a reasonable opinion" and "it is impossible we will win 9 games".

Don't mean to hate, but did you expect to see the first 15 scripted plays for the first game, complete with The Force rolling out and hitting open receivers, or MINOR RAGE? It was Michigan football players on (plausibly) live TV. Haven't seen that since last Nov. For Aug. 14, it wasn't so bad. All that matters is what happens after toe meets leather on Sept. 5.

Are you going to lead the players through an exceptionally hard conditioning drill if they go 7-5 or 6-6? Are you going to admonish them?

I'm not a member of the board's grammar gestapo, but "I like words" (much like our fine friend Hank Moody). Consequently, I can't let anyone get away with the little peanut-ty turd you've left circling the toilet of a final sentence you provided us with. Admonish: As in "to suggest and encourage in a friendly manner"? As in "to earnestly and gently provide warning"? You weren't way off with your [mis]understanding and [mis]use of the word admonish. However, you didn't use it accurately, either.

Actually I meant it in this sense: 1. to caution, advise, or counsel against something. 2. to reprove or scold, esp. in a mild and good-willed manner: The teacher admonished him about excessive noise. 3. to urge to a duty; remind: to admonish them about their obligations. Admonish fit perfectly in my sentence. No coach yells at the players in bad will. They do it to correct bad habits and to teach them. It works. I am glad you aren't a member of the grammar gestapo because you would suck at it.

Un-ac-cept-able. I won't accept it. I'll return to sender. I'll have them tear it all down and do it over, so help me God. (Eleven Warriors: stupid sarcasm, not delusions of grandeur)

i think this goes to show you how little you can learn from watching practice. thanks for the input Gerry "3 wins" DiNardo. more experience+smoother practices+talent to fit the scheme=lower predictions than last year's? anybody catch that DiNardo said he thought that robinson would be the QB because "neither of the freshmen have good arms?" what's that all about? maybe tate doesn't have the strongest arm in the world but i would by no means discount his passing ability. accurate passing is what he is entirely known for! did Gerry watch or do any preperation?

more experience+smoother practices+talent to fit the scheme=lower predictions than last year's? Uh - you realize that they're comparing this team to what happened last year, not what they expected to happen last year, right? maybe tate doesn't have the strongest arm in the world but i would by no means discount his passing ability. accurate passing is what he is entirely known for! did Gerry watch or do any preperation? Him saying something you disagree with doesn't make him wrong. Further, I guarantee you that he's seen Tate throw more than you have. Finally, "3 wins at Indiana" or no, I'm pretty sure that him being a head football coach at 3 different D-I schools makes him a better evaluator of talent than you.

Did you hear Lloyd on the after show? He said before 1997 we had four 4 loss seasons in a row and the media said "M" stood for mediocre. That sounds familiar up to 2007. We are changing that.

In the interview with Minor, did anybody else notice the tackling dummy printed with the OSU logo on it? Is that a new thing, or has Michigan had those in the past?

I agree with the poster who said that last year, with Threet and Sheridan at the helm, and Mr Magoo at DC, UM still should have been 6-6 (I say good coaches win a game or two they shouldn't). So this year, with more and more of Rich Rodriguez's Guys, and what looks like just as manageable a schedule, 8-4 seems a very reasonable expectation. I say it is time to find out what $2.8 Million gets you.

Agreed. 6-6 will most likely bring us wins against Western, Eastern, Indiana, Purdue, and Delaware St...which we means we lose EVERY game beyond this except one. Wow. As a fan, that really leaves me a bit deflated. Give me at least one win over our rivals, and one extra game. I'd take 7-5, but would be praying for 8-4.

We may have a bunch of freshmen and some holes, but it seems like everyone's on the same page this year and that definitely wasn't true last year. Cohesiveness has to play a role here, and I bet if we get a couple of good wins at the onset, that will give us the mojo to do better than our ability at this point should let us. Besides, we're the MICHIGAN fucking WOLVERINES!

I'm thinking we go 7-5. Don't forget, last year was the first time since the late 80s that we've lost to all three of our main rivals (ND, MSU, OSU) in the same year. I'm fairly confident that we'll beat at least one of them (probably MSU, they're pretty overrated in my opinion). On top of that, we'll probably eke out another win somewhere in the schedule, probably @Wisconsin. Although I agree that a lot of pessimism is warranted, especially after last year. We'll just have to wait and see.
