"Former Saginaw Heritage standout and University of Michigan recruit Brian Cole will sit out the 2017 Mississippi State season, the Clarion-Ledger reported Friday.

"Mississippi State coach Dan Mullen confirmed that Cole will receive a redshirt season for academic reasons after transferring from East Mississippi Community College."

That's not possible, seriously. They knew what classes he was taking and Mississippi State has no problem taking Juco credits, certainly not from an in-state school  His Juco has lots of players transfer out. They know what is needed for that too. Maybe they won't accept credits from Michigan, LOL.

It means his final grades were below the NCAA minimum. Not to be too harsh, but it's hard to think of a reason for that other than Cole's continuing irresponsibility.

Most of the kids there DO pretend not to care about school.  The failure is in the public school system they grew up in, and a (potential) lack of support from family at home.  Many of these kids grow up never learning how to read as children, and fall farther and father behind in school and eventually learn to misbehave or "not try" because they're afraid to appear "dumb."

Trying to toe the line of #nopolitics, but I feel genuinely sad for these kids and glad that people like "Miss Brittany" exist to help try and salvage the potential they have left at 18 years old.

On the other hand, it's a bit harder to me to be truly sympathetic towards guys like Tate Forcier and Brian Cole.  I know that posters will invevitably tell me that none of us know what's going on in his world - and hopefully it is just a matter of transferring credits - but I know through a reliable grapevine that he haad a strong support structure growing up, and did enough academically at Saginaw Heritage (at minimum an above-average high school) to graduate and enroll early at University of Michigan.

Hope this kid pulls it together for his encore of Last Chance U at MSU (NTMSU) this season.

Its really unfortunate that this kid decided to go in the wrong direction.  He has a boatload of raw talent - and figured that feeling good for a cople of hours was more important than the rest of his life.  Guess I'm not really surprised that he's academically ineligible at an SEC school...

That's not all of it. I know plenty of people who have smoked their life away, but I also know plenty of successful professionals who regularly smoke weed.

A lot of people with responsibility problems or other issues are drawn to alcohol and other drugs, because getting high lets them forget about their more serious issues for a little while. But that doesn't mean the substances are the cause of the problems.

I didn't even know he ended up at Mississippi St. He was in Last Chance U for about 10 seconds and I don't remember an update at the end of the last episode either.

Didn't he already take a redshirt his frosh year at Michigan?  There must be some NCAA bylaw that allows multiple red shirts and perpetual eligibility for schools w/ the initials M-S-U.

I'm pretty sure it was due to an injury. I think he could apply for a medical redshirt and be the next 6-year guy if approved. Not sure if the kid deserves Ed Davis 6 year luck, but the possibility exists.
