Tough break. My worst fear regarding him has come true. I got a little nervous when I read that he had grade issues back at San Diego.

Grade issues while he was home schooled? Mom giving you an F would suck.

I didn't read the whole thread to see if this was covered or not, but they have been prepping for this for awhile. This is the real reason that Jeremy Gallon has been taking QB snaps. My source is Mr. Moeller if anyone thinks I am just pulling stuff out of my ass. They were hoping Tate would catch up on the work that needed to be done, but they have been prepping Gallon for awhile in case he needs to take a couple of snaps.

I hate made up shit like this. Zero info from the team or otherwise indicated Forcier would be an issue. I KNOW this. But you claim fucking Gary Moeller knew?
God this comment pisses me off more than anything in this issue

The staff and team knew Forcier might not make it, as did many in the student body.

After a while, maybe it will become clear that this three-year disaster isn't the result of "bad luck."

Criticizing the worst coach in the history of Michigan football doesn't make him a troll. In fact, most alumni, fans, reportedly the president and possibly the AD agree with him. Reality meet mgoboard.

Going to see many more scenes like this next year.

Timmy you add nothing to this blog but your gibberish statements like Timmmaay! Why would they keep you.

Go back through my post history, more than just the first page (as that is now filled with OMGSTFU posts aimed at both of your accounts).

Only one account Junior.

If Richrod uses Gardner, he might as well fly directly to Maryland after the game.

1: Denard Robinson
2: Jack Kennedy
3: Nader Furrha
4: Darryl Stonum
5. Kelvin Grady

84. Tom Pomarico
85. Devin Gardner

Agreed although I would probably have Gallon and Avery ahead of Stonum and probably Furrah too.

Man, jokes aren't ever as funny if you have to explain them.

This isn't the worst thing in the history of the University. It is--in my opinion--another nail heading for RichRod's coffin.
I know I have said this before, but it is a huge point for this thread. I teach at a college which very unlikely to be an NCAA bowl contender. My in season athletes each require me to submit a bi-weekly report including projected grades, attendance, and weaknesses. These reports are almost standard at all schools--the only differences that I have heard about is that some schools are weekly.
RichRod either knew this was coming and did nothing, or he is not in control of his program. Standing alone this is not a reason to fire him. This is, however, another weight on the scale of whether he should keep his job.

Exactly what could he do? Tell Tate he "has to work harder at his grades"? Hold him out of team events? Sure. He coudl do those things. Those still DON'T FIX GRADES IF THE STUDENT STILL DOESN'T DO THE WORK.
The head coach is responsible for knowing where a player is at academically and encouraging/challenging them. The PLAYER is responsible for actually getting their shit done.

A real coach would borrow his M-Card and take his exams for him.

Blazefire, you seem angry about my post.
There is a lot a coach can do, and several do. Call the prof where Tate is having the problem (or in RichRod's case have one of the Assistants do it). Ask what can be done. Extra credit? Is he just not coming to class? Missing assignments? Can he resubmit some work? Submit late for partial credit? Just doing that often makes a big difference.
Require Tate to attend office hours and discuss with the prof.
Give him extra time at the team study table and assign another team member to check that he is reading and note outlining for the class.
Have him turn in papers to a team tutor several days before the papers are due, have the tutor review and 'grade' and have Tate fix the paper.
Require visits to the campus tutoring center(s) and review the session summaries to make sure he is on track.
I have had several coaches do this for middle of the road players at a middle of the road sports program. It works. Often times these student athletes just need the correct push and someone to find out what options there are in the course to fix a poor start (or 3/4) of a bad term. Students sliding down in a course will often lock up and hide their heads and let it happen--when some face to face time and a few extra hours could save them.
RichRod sure as heck could have done the same for one of the stars of a top 40 national program. Heck, if I got a personal phone call from someone like him who wanted to assist a star work his way out of a grade hole I would be so giddy I would be helping him read my course outline to figure out how much extra credit the student could work for.

that Rodriguez didn't take any of these actions?
December 31st, 2010 at 1:04 PM ^
and all the possibilities/consequences of gardner playing/not playing and rrod staying/not staying, it really, really hurts your head. i don't suggest anyone think too much about the above topics together for longer than a minute or two.
