Brandon Minor Waived by the Bears
Sad to see another one let go, especially with Minor's talent. To my knowledge, this leaves Matthews (Bears), Warren (Jets), and Brown (Bucs) as UFAs that have stuck around. On a side note, this is the first thing that came up when I google searched "Greg Matthews Chicago Bears". It looks like he might have a strong future with the team, at least from a fan's perspective.

Sadly, not everyone is Brett Favre. The average NFL career is only 3 years. Hopefully his Michigan education will take him far.
I wish him the best in his post-football career. Minor was a true Michigan Man.

Who said anything about his football career ending?

One cut is way too early to give up on that.

Yeah, it looks like Matthews might be able to hang in there. He's seen the field in the preseason games, has had some nice catches with good performance after the catch. Also has been on the special teams group, at least some time.
I wish Minor could've made it, but I'm not at all surprised. I hadn't seen him on the field at all this pre-season.

Man I thought he could make it if he would just stay healthy for once.

He could still make it to a practice squad and make it onto a team from there.

Generally, the practice squad guys stay on to the final cuts, at which point they're cut and resigned to the practice squad the next day. These aren't final cuts, sadly.

Apparently he didn't get to play at all in the preseason because of a concussion. From Jets Coach Rex Ryan's Monday press conference:
"On if he’s concerned about Warren’s injury…
No. It’s just like Mauga. Mauga missed. We had that goal line scrimmage and he had the concussion, actually finished the practice and then came back and had the concussion. He hasn’t played in a single preseason game. Obviously, if you still have symptoms, then you don’t play them. It’s as simple as that.
It’s weird. You go back and you think about many years ago, a guy would have a concussion and it was like "No big deal. He’ll be up next week." That’s not the case anymore and it shouldn’t be. You’ve got to make sure they’re a 100 percent healthy. That’s really what we’re doing. It’s not like back in the days where he would have played.
On the fine line between trying to evaluate Warren on the field but he has been injured…
Well, you can’t. A head injury in particular, no way are you going to rush that. So if you can’t evaluate, you can’t evaluate him. It’s unfortunate for those two young guys, but what’s the likelihood of him making a team? You have no tape, so I would say slim to none, but maybe you put him on a practice squad and you see a little more of him that way."
(Tried to do the yellow box but guess I got it wrong.)
But, on the bright side, if Ryan didn't think much of Warren, he wouldn't have devoted so much time to him in the press conference. (The other player he mentions is Josh Mauga, a LB from Nevada, but the question was about Warren.)

With the Bears O-Line and his injury history, that was the worst team he could possibly have ended up with.
I think he'll find his way into an NFL game before his career is over. I couldn't have been imagining what I saw from him at Michigan. Especially when you consider the offense he was playing with.

Ortmann was cut by the Falcons late last week

That really surprises me with his running style I really felt like the Bears were a pretty good fit for him. Good luck with your future endeavors Brandon!! No one will ever have the word 'rage' anywhere in their name in your honor.
