Brady Hoke will be on Dan Patrick Show Tomorrow

Submitted by rb4kb8 on

So just a few minutes ago, Dan Patrick said Brady Hoke will be on his show tomorrow.

So this raises a few red flags for me, hoping some of you can make me feel better about this if possible.

WHY??????????????

Look, I get the UTL threats of boycotts and available tickets is an issue and you go on these shows to promote that game and try to drum up interest, business and ticket sales... It's even possible the goal is to try and plea to prevent any boycotts or pre-kick off things that would leave a large section of the stadium empty at kickoff.

But isn't this just throwing fuel to the fire?

I look at it as yes, it's nice the University isn't hiding... but no one is demanding Brady do national interviews at this point... that time has come and gone.

It's Dan's job to allow the interviewee a chance to talk about the real reason that person comes on, but 99% of this interview will be about Brady's Job, concussion issues... and shine yet another national spotlight on UM in a negative way.... AND IT WON'T BE THE STUDENTS/FANS DOING IT... This will be on DB/BH and UM.

There's no need for Brady to turn to a national audience and subject himself to this.  There's no way Brady wins this discussion... NO WAY.

And don't get me wrong, I understand it's Dan's job to ask these questions and make that the focus... which is again why I question why Brady/Brandon whoever is approving it.

I never once said Dan would attack or go out of his way to do anything... I'm saying I fail to see how going on a national show and once again facing an interview about most things negative.. helps Brady or Michigan.

He was also sporting a rockin moustache. Can't wait to hear him try to get Brady to say some complete sentences.

We had a good week of practice. I like this team. We can still accomplish our goals. Support the kids.

Why would his answers be any different than at the weekly pressers?

Good guy -- met him at a tennis tournament a few years back near his hometown of Mason, Ohio, which is right by me.

Anyhoo...yeah, I agree with the thought that Hoke is NOT going to be raked through the coals in this interview, by any means.

It's not likely that he will press the concussion/hot seat matters. These radio show appearances are calculated and involve a great deal of PR discussions behind the scenes. There are always boundaries set and host are careful not to overstep them in order to maintatin the future relationship between with the school.

...Although our PR department hasn't exactly been sterling over the past few weeks, so maybe they're sending Hoke into a firestorm. Stay tuned, I suppose.

DP is the most gentlemanly guy on the radio. Probably the only radio guy secure enough on a national scale to not ask a bunch of ridiculous shit. He has said on numerous occasions how much he likes Hoke. After all he's been through there will probably only be a few questions about Morris and job security, then a bunch of softballs. Very low risk appearance.

I suppose I am missing something, but I don't quite understand why this really raises any flags as the OP mentions. I don't foresee a scenario where Patrick goes out of his way to ruthlessly grill Hoke on his position or make him come across as an idiot, if that's what the OP's fear is. I would imagine that if Hoke or the AD thought it would go that away, there wouldn't have been any approval on this one.

I can see the reason Brandon is putting Brady out there- he is nervous about the boycott and wants a media attack on it. Look at all the softball press questions by the media this week during the pressers that allowed easy slams. look at the student govt. statement (this week!). DB sending Brady out there to to save Brandon's job- this week has smelled like a PR campaign.

Nobody seems to be interested in intervewing ther boycotters and asking about what their views may be.

Is probably the safest interview that Hoke could do. Dan will ask the questions that need to be asked and let Brady answer. Dan will not go on the attack. That is not his style. He also seems to like Hoke and Hoke has been comfortable on the air with him in previous interviews.

I don't see where I wrote Dan would attack him... never wrote it...never believed he would...

What I'm saying is, the questions will be there and it's a headache that can be avoided... and there's no way Brady is able to sell the good of Michigan football over the bad right now.

"WellllllllllllLL Dan, I wouldn't say the seat is hot.... We have a good group of guys that believe in each other that practice hard, compete and stuff "- Hoke will say, probably

I think you're overreacting. Although I would prefer Hoke to spend tommorow preparing for Penn State and not bumbling on TV.

Maybe he will embarrass himself more...

"Umm well uhhh hi Dan let's get my 115 sons uhh to uhh work hard and stuff beat Ohio"

If Hoke does the interview, it's "Why?"  If he refuses the interview, he is a "coward" and the program "lacks transparency."

Brady Hoke is taking one for the team.  He is "going down with the ship."  And he will be rewarded with a very nice buyout.

We're now blasting the guy for doing a radio interview before the biggest home game of the season?

Christ. I've said it before and I'll say it again...Hoke probably needs to be fired, and criticism is warranted...but can we keep it in the realm of reality please? He's still the head coach guys.

Dan Patrick is going to mention the following things in some form without fail:

1.Shane Morris and his concussion.

2. Does he feel he should keep is job/will he be fired.

If you don't know this, you don't listen to Dan Patrick. He WILL NOT throw softballs.

you will learn nothing new from the interview. Hoke may be trying to garner sympathy from Michigan alum not aware of the turmoil in Ann Arbor.

"Excuse me Dan, I have to take these headsets off." They're like second skin you know."

We have to do a better job of coaching. That's a point I can't emphasize enough. Yes, I think like you.................know we've got some young kids and we got to do a better job of coaching.....we've had some untimely issues. It's not a lack of effort. We really have to do a better job of coaching..... Yes, I'm looking forward to the opportunity to play in front of a 100K plus again. Did I say we have to do a better job of coaching?"

Nothing to see here.  Hoke will provide nothing of substance and will  be repetitive with his comments.

I live in Philly and he reminds me a bit of Andy Reid and his pressers/interviews.  I heard for 14 years how he and the other coaches need to do a better job, "it's on me", execution, blah, blah, blah.
