Brady Hoke to make $500k at UT

Submitted by skegemogpoint on

half a million $ for a DL coach.  Just goes to show, it pays to be a good guy.

this is going to be a big win for Tennessee and for Hoke. Hopefully no one succumbs to the peter principle again and tries to move him beyond his area of expertise.

It's a legitimate question because it seems to me Butch Jones is on the hot seat after the disappointing 2016 season.

Tennessee has not won the SEC East in 4 seasons under Jones. His best finish in the division is 5-3.

If anything this just shows how outrageous spending has become at the top tier of the Power 5.  Hoke is making millions from his previous two - two! - employers.  Tennessee could get away with paying him peanuts.  They've got money to blow, apparently.

Yes, it has become outrageous.

But thankfully we can do it at Michigan.

It's the great equalizer for us.

We can't move the university, but it's one of the things we can do to compete with the SEC teams that have all the talent in their backyard.

No it's not fair to the Purdue's and Iowa State's of the world, but I'd be OK if Michigan spent even more.  It's something we can actually do to compete where we have an advantage.

His inability to win as a head coach has zero to do with his ability as a DL coach.

He is an excellent d-line coach and recruiter. Many of those success stories are playing out at the combine as we speak.

Yeah, I know. Harbaugh made them all great players. Blah. Blah. Blah.

Dude can recruit and coach d-line with the best. Period.

Great for Brady Hoke!  I have always liked Coach Hoke and I think he will do really well at Tennessee.  I never had that feeling about the Oregon job. Go get'em Coach Hoke!

He isn't paid that kind of dough for sucking hard at his job unless, of course, a school hires him to the wrong job.

He has proven he's worth 500K annually for nothing more than being a great recruiter. However, being a great recruiter is as valuable as being a great position coach as long as you don't mix the two.

You may have rooted for Brady because he's a good guy provided he coached for somebody else.

In the future, what with all of his coaching stops, you may rue the future Brady where your favorite team encounters him. He's undoubtedly learned rather a lot by now and he will continue to grow his knowledge base with UT.

He never quit. And in the future I believe that Brady will find his promised land, which could be to our detriment. Or perhaps he'll take a position in the League.  Time will tell, but Brady appears to be all-in for the long haul.

I'm glad he's still coaching. A source had said that he may have to pursue Plan B. Plan B was to live out the remainder of his days as a Male Plus Size Model.

imagine this scenario:

dantonio retires.

msu looks far and wide for a coach, with little luck.

brady gets hired as msu coach.

but, in a twist, he comes back as "EVIL BRADY HOKE", brady's evil twin separated from him at birth. just like pro 'rasslin.

now that would be fun.
