Brady going to classes...
December 7th, 2011 at 7:25 AM ^
Couldn't imagine seeing him at the back of my lecture hall back in the day. I'm surprised they were able to get anything done in class.
December 7th, 2011 at 8:14 AM ^
Hoke doesn't sit in back. He stands in front and points at students, both to quell rowdy behavior, and to call on them for questions for the professor.
December 7th, 2011 at 8:38 AM ^
well done

When the Boogeyman goes to bed he checks under his bed for Brady Fuckin HoKe.

puts brady in the corner...or back
December 7th, 2011 at 7:34 AM ^
and his energy is limitless from the sound of things.
December 7th, 2011 at 7:45 AM ^
After that he ran a marathon, cured cancer, and fed thousands of poor.
But really, everythingh I read about Hoke makes me love him more and more. I would kill for a chance to just sit down and talk to him. Not about football, but about life. I never got that opportunity with Bo, though I always wanted it, but Hoke seems like such a Bo-incarnate that it would be just as awesome.
December 7th, 2011 at 7:38 AM ^
Hoke coach Michigan and run for president? ?? Got my vote.....HOKE FOR PRESIDENT ....Like the sound of that..I'm willing to bet he would do a "tremendous" job...Go Blue...
December 7th, 2011 at 7:49 AM ^
Wait till he makes it over to North Campus. Let's see if he still thinks class is "neat" after sitting through thermodynamics!
In all seriousness though, what a likeable guy, and a great leader. I imagine most of the time it's a graduate assistant who checks up on players in class. While it's a small thing, it has to go a long way for both the players and the coaching staff to see the head coach get his hands dirty with the more mundane aspects of the job, and be enthusiastic about it too.
Coach Hoke, I am so happy to admit that I'm wrong about everything I thought when you were hired. You're a heck of a leader and a heck of a football coach. Good luck in NOLA. GEAUX BLEU!

Apple seems to have suffered from that failure quite a bit.
December 7th, 2011 at 8:53 AM ^
This is tremendous...
...on so many levels.
December 7th, 2011 at 9:06 AM ^
Hard to believe how much I like this guy after being pretty "meh" about his hire. What a tremendous man!
December 7th, 2011 at 9:08 AM ^
Wait... was he checking in on his players or literally just sitting in to learn? That's awesome either way.
December 7th, 2011 at 9:11 AM ^
Most likeable coach I've ever heard of. Would have given my right arm to have a guy like him coach my high school hockey team (although that would have made playing hard).
One mistake made though was reading the comment section to the article. The MSM has done its job in spinning low APR numbers into a "Michigan football players don't graduate" meme.
December 7th, 2011 at 9:50 AM ^
Is there an action MORE unadvisable than reading the online comments section in newspaper articles? It has to rank up there near getting involved in a land war in Asia.
Invariably I end up hating the world and fearing for the future of society. I try to avoid reading them, not always successfully.
December 7th, 2011 at 11:41 AM ^
It is an orgy of conspiracy theories.
December 7th, 2011 at 9:25 AM ^
Lloyd Brady really is that big...I thought for sure this was a story about him going to class. I am just glad we don't have a coach with the name facepalm, or we would be really confused.
December 7th, 2011 at 9:32 AM ^
Brady Hoke has now attended more classes at Michigan than Adolphus Washington will at Ohio State.
December 7th, 2011 at 9:32 AM ^
Tremedous! We should hold Hoke accountable for everything the prof said in lecture.
December 7th, 2011 at 9:37 AM ^
The class Hoke sat in on sounds more interesting than thermodynamics, calculus, chemistry, physics, etc. Not that those aren't interesting, but they generally don't have a discrete amount of info in a single class period that anyone can sit in on and find intelligible, without a large amount of previously built on material.
I suppose that the only classes that it would make sense to visit would be large lecture hall settings, having material dealing with history, political science, sociology, psychology, etc.
December 7th, 2011 at 2:06 PM ^
I would even go as far as saying that most undergrad classes in thermodynamics, calc, chem, physics, etc aren't that interesting. Its not until you get into some of the harder materials (some high level undergrad classes and grad school) that things seem to start getting interesting.
December 7th, 2011 at 9:44 AM ^
I wish he was my father!
December 7th, 2011 at 9:46 AM ^
"Ok class put away your notes it's exam time" -Prof
"Shit......" -Brady
December 7th, 2011 at 9:49 AM ^
And would Hoke participate in class discussion? That would be interesting . . . for Bacon to call on guest Brady Hoke to comment on various situations Hoke might just have insight into.
December 7th, 2011 at 10:37 AM ^
"The impact of British marching music in the Caribbean."
Was there a Hoke point?
December 7th, 2011 at 10:45 AM ^
I remember reading something about coaches not being allowed to contact professors directly and vice versa--they're supposed to go through the NCAA faculty rep--but I can't remember whether that's an NCAA rule or an institutional policy.
December 7th, 2011 at 11:28 AM ^
You should totally investigate this matter, Mr. Rosenberg!
December 7th, 2011 at 11:50 AM ^
that's almost as bad as free tats.
December 7th, 2011 at 2:34 PM ^
When you first started trolling, uh, joined?
December 7th, 2011 at 11:07 AM ^
Any tax-paying citizen of the State of Michigan can sit in on any classes at a public state university. Obviously, that is not contacting a professor directly. Now a coach contacting a professor about a student's grades, that's a no-no.
Nice try though.
December 7th, 2011 at 11:42 AM ^
Um, not really. They can pay to audit a course if the professor consents, but a public university's courses are not public lectures with completely open-door policies.
December 7th, 2011 at 11:50 AM ^
It doesn't really matter as an employee of the school Hoke has privileges, its not like he is some random guy. There are people on the staff that part of their job is randomly showing up to classes to make sure athletes aren't skipping.
December 7th, 2011 at 11:58 AM ^
Ok, who's the loser that marked everything as overrated?
December 7th, 2011 at 12:02 PM ^
I'm bringin a Santa hat to class from now on. If I see Hoke in one of my classes I'm going to put it on him, sit on his lap, and ask for a sugar bowl victory, big ten championship and a win against ohio and sparty
December 7th, 2011 at 12:36 PM ^
I remember reading that Bo also would attend classes even after he was done coaching.
December 7th, 2011 at 1:10 PM ^
I really like stories like this about coaches and academics.
There was this, at the end:
And the price if any of the football players wouldn't have been there?
"Then they’re up at 6 a.m. the next morning," Hoke said, flashing another smile.
Better count those hours! Workouts as punishment for missing classes are permissible during the academic year, but must be counted under CARA calculations. The exact same thing is not permissible during summer months.
