That isn't sponsored by a fast food restaurant it will need to actually beat a team that is ranked at seasons end. Maybe UM fans should try and be happy to just be bowl eligible. Like it or not, this is where your program is at. Your playing to make a bowl, any bowl. You are not in the conversation of teams that matter. Haven't been for 5-6 years now

Bowl matchup against Florida? I feel like the media is creating a narrative. Our wit that's what media does. I wanted the Rose Bowl, or whatever substitute they have for that. I am really rooting for every team who plays Sparty and praying they lose two. Oh how great it would be to beat the Buckeyes and go to Indy.

Whatever bowl game projections I have seen have been for drama. Stanford, Arizona, and Florida. against Harbaugh's old school Against Rich Rod, Or in a coache of the year battle versus Mcelwain.

that either...

A. Iowa is going to lose once before the B10CG (they'd still proably make it, as they have a two game lead with tiebreakers currently), therefore losing to OSU in that game would leave them with two losses. The Peach Bowl would select a 3-loss Michigan over a 2-loss Iowa. I'm assuming the predictors think OSU will beat us because they have them in the Playoff.

B. Iowa is NOT going to lose before the B10CG bill will lose to OSU. The Peach committee would select a 3-loss Michigan over a 1-loss Iowa ... would be sort of remarkable but the way Michigan would draw attendance and TV viewers I could see it. Iowa fans would be pissed though.

Hawkeye tears taste like peaches?

To clarify, in both of the above scenarios I'm assuming the prognisticators believe we'll lose to Ohio State -- or do they think OSU will lose to us, still make the B10CG based on tiebreaker, win it and still make the playoff??

Citrus or Outback seem more likely. Seems like we're sitting behind OSU, MSU and Iowa for NY6 bowl berths at this point.

Can someone with more familiarity with this explain to me:

  • What would have to happen for M to play in the Orange bowl?
  • What determines the opponent (ACC v. SEC v. ND)?

Are they just taking the pot of B1G, ACC, SEC, teams plus ND and selecting the two top ranked, available teams, or how does that work?

I think it's the highest ranked team available from either BUT the B1G and SEC are guaranteed 3 appearances each over 12 years. If the B1G and SRC champions are both in the playoff, as this assumes, the second place teams in each league MUST go to their contractual bowl, so the Orange gets to pick from one of their third place teams OR Notre Dame a maximum of two times. If the Orange were free this year, and OSU beat Iowa in the B1GCCG but we were ranked in the top 15, we would be a legitimate Orange Bowl contender with Iowa in the Rose.

does flat out take the interest away from the other bowl games. That is a very predictable side effect from the playoff. It will extend to the rest of the NY6 as well. The Rose Bowl and the Sugar Bowl are really the only games with intrinsic importance aside from the playoff. That is why I never wanted a playoff or the BCS for that matter. "Bowl season" no longer exists. It is the playoff and a bunch of games nobody cares about.

What?  They are not projecting us in the Playoff???  But we have HARBAUGH!!!!  Obviously these projections are false.

MOST EXCELLENT as I live in Atlanta...and there are alot of Wolverines in the area so we would be very well represented

Unless Iowa drops a game or two in the regular season (which they definitely could), I'm not holding out hope at this point in Michigan making a NY6 bowl.

OSU and MSU are virtual locks for playoff/NY6 spots, and if Iowa wins 10-11 games in the regular season, they'd probably get a nod too even after they lose to whoever the Eastern Champion is.

Need to win out to have any hope of a NY6 bowl, but considering where we've been the past two years, a trip to the Outback or Citrus bowl would be pretty solid as well.

My guess is that it defers to playoff rankings at that point, and I'm not sure we'd overtake OSU even with a win over them. We'd definitely be top 10, but there is a LOT of ground to make up for us to have any hope of making the title game. Along with a few things having to break just right for Michigan.
