Bowl Game outlook

Submitted by DISCUSS Man on

What bowl do you think Michigan ends up in now?

Rose and Capital One are out of the question now. As well a BCS At-Large.

There are 8 bowl games to fill, the B1G only has 7 bowl eligible teams. illinois, indiana & northwestern are at 3-6, 4-5 & 4-5 respectively. So unless they pull magic out of their ass, it looks like no B1G team will be headed to Detroit.

If this team doesn't win the next 3 games and still plays on New Year's Day, it should be a wake up to anyone who doesn't recognize how terrible the bowl system is.

On a positive note, a non- NYD game would keep attention on Jan. 1 on the Wings-Leafs at Michigan Stadium.

The first four Big Ten bowl selections go to the Rose, Capital One, Outback and Buffalo Wild Wings bowls in that order.  The Big Ten’s four best teams right now are Ohio State, Michigan State, Wisconsin and Nebraska.  As of now, they’re probably the favorites to go to those four bowls.

Then come the Gator, Texas, Heart of Dallas and Little Caesar’s Pizza bowls.

If Michigan and Nebraska both finish 8-4, then maybe the Buffalo Wild Wings Bowl would take Michigan over Nebraska.

If Minnesota finishes 8-4, and Michigan finishes 6-6 on a five-game losing streak, it might be hard for the Gator Bowl to justify taking Michigan over Minnesota, but I could see that happening.

Would a 6-6 Michigan go to the Texas Bowl ahead of a 7-5 Iowa that had beaten Michigan? Possibly.

But if the chips fall in the most pessimistic way for Michigan, a loss to Northwestern (and guessing that Northwestern would beat Illinois to become 6-6) probably puts the Wolverines and Wildcats in a battle for the Big Ten’s final two bowl slots.

In that case, the Michigan Athletic Department probably would be rooting for the people in Dallas to say that they’ve seen enough of Michigan, so that there won’t be any conflict with the Maple Leafs and Red Wings at The Big House on New Year’s Day.  And the people at Little Caesar’s probably would be willing to pay off the Heart of Dallas Bowl committee, just for the chance to have Michigan playing in a Detroit bowl game this year.
