Bo statue to stand in new Schembechler Hall entrance

Submitted by Wolverine Devotee on

The entrance to the building will shift from the State Street side to the north side of the building. A statue of Bo Schembechler will stand in the entrance to the building and a wall will have his famous words “those who stay will be champions” inscribed on it.

Didn't see this anywhere in the MGoBlue article. I sugested it in a post in the thread from yesterday, without knowing about this article. Pretty awesome if you ask me. He deserves one, the building is named after him.

How about a Fritz Crisler statue at the new entrance of Crisler Center? A statue of the father of Michigan Athletics, Fielding Yost at Yost Arena? Bob Ufer at the concourse at Michigan Stadium? Ray Fisher at the entrance of Wilpon Baseball Complex? Don Canahm at the 'Nat?

Here's the statue of Bo at his alma mater, miami university

Is the statue going to be '70's Bo' or '80's Bo?'

70's Bo didn't have glasses and he didn't always have the Michigan cap on, at least for the first part of the decade.

80's Bo had more of what we're used to seeing; head set, glasses, cap, jacket, etc.

Speaking of kitties, I caught a stray cat two nights ago. It was like 1:00am, so the shelters were all closed, so I took it into my bathroom and left it with some food and water. MGB then decided it was too loud in there and it escaped when it got into the main area of my apartment. Sad story, I wish I could have helped it more.

I not only like the idea of the statue for Bo, which is fitting and, dare I say, almost necessary if there is going to be a museum dedicated to the football program in the  renovations, but this:

"In the middle of the museum will be a “beacon” that will be covered with footballs representing each of the program’s victories."

I rather like this idea as well, since to me it would symbolize how the success of the program has continued to draw people to this team and to this campus. I would like to see what sorts of designs emerge for this as well.

i just really hope it looks like him.  some of these statues sports venues put up look very bad.  i guarantee once it is up, no one will EVER want to take it down.

Right on the half-way mark in Toledo, I want to see a life-sized statue commemorating The Game. It will be a complete scene of Woody and Bo throwing chairs at each other.
