Is this all that exciting, not really, but it's July, I want to hear anything I can about Michigan Football, and if you're bored at work you might as well get your UM Football fix.

Note: I didn't think that this was only for insiders when I posted it, but when fixing the link I realized it's at insider.espn.com.  In that case, follow Rittenberg and all the WolverineNation people on twitter to get your fix (also Joe Schad appears to be covering everything Penn State if you want to hear more about them).  All that this ESPN link does is compile all the twitter feeds into one stream.

Just saw a segment on espnu where Luginbill and Galloway predicted how Michigan will finish this season. They each predicted a loss to Bama, Michigan St, and they split on ND and OSU. They seem ti think Michigan will be in the B1G championship game, as do I.

Seems like Coach Beckman doesn't have an indoor voice. He just has coach voice. ALL THE TIME.

He says they weren't actively recruiting Penn State guys. They WERE at State College, just not at Penn State. They were at other establishments calling guys. I really have nothing to say about this. Seems skeevy.

I'm at home and watching the coaches on BTN. I'm going to start making random observations. I missed Bielema and Hope's turns but caught bits and pieces when they replayed highlights.

  • Danny Hope should be the new Purdue mascot. Excellent mustache grooming. A major part of his gameplan for this season (not kidding): Stay healthy.
  • They showed a clip of Bielema's conference. Why did Brett Beilema look like someone sprayed him with baby oil before he took the stage?
  • Urban Meyer was boring. I enjoyed him acting like poaching players from Penn State was so immoral after flipping ALL PSU commits last year.
  • The moderator is really awkward. Sp sp sp spit it out, lady.
  • The press asks some really stupid questions, as expected. Hopefully Rittenberg asks another stupid one to Hoke.

There was a really awkward 30 seconds of silence after Hope finished his opening remarks and the moderator asked for any questions. No one had any. And then Hope pretty much admitted to sending out scholarships to anyone on Penn State who would listen.

Yeah, and Hope looks like he's a Madame Tussaud's wax sculpture of himself.

Other bits of tid:

  • Beckman has some twang.
  • First two questions to Kevin Wilson: Penn State-related hahahahaha
  • Reporter: What did you do to fix your stinky defense? Kevin Wilson: Our offense sucks, too, don't forget that.
  • BOB's story about his team watching Pats film was great. It was prompted by the only decent question from the reporters.

So far I have been pretty impressed with Bielema and O'Brien. Brett seems like a cool dude and classy as hell. And it looks like Penn State got a good one in O'Brien, that guy has handled this whole situation pretty impressively. Hope, Boeckman and Meyer all came off as slime balls to me.

Penn State is probably going to change their uniforms. Huh.  Too bad.  I love the simplicity of their uniforms. But I understand them wanting to change their brand right now.

If they do, that is utterly brilliant. I like the classic look as well but they need to be radical in their "starting over" message.

O'Brien has an impressive public persona for a first-time head coach. No, I don't think he or 99 percent of coaches could succeed in his position now. But every once in a while when listening to him I kinda believe just maybe he can.

Why did Beckman issue a cordial declaration of war to Northwestern? If he wants to artificially inspire hate, he should have just spent the whole time bashing the school.

One word answers and the death glare at some questions he felt were stupid = shirty.

A reporter asked if they were changing their uniforms and he not only didn't deny it, he said that will have to wait for the season to see it.

It almost felt like he didn't answer any one of the questions he was asked. Simply awesome! I'm going to try this tactic with my girlfriend.

OMG, that is priceless.  I hope someone posts a transcript.

Will this same reporter ask Dantonio: If you finished second in your division, and you got a BCS bowl invitation over the first place team, would you turn it down?

I'm paraphrasing. His face and body language are even better.

More:

  • I don't know who dresses most of these guys but they all borrowed ties from Bill Lumbergh.
  • Bo Pelini, I'm not sure what's wrong with him - maybe he's sedated but he reminded me of good cop/dumb cop from Family Guy:

  • Mark Dantonio is getting a serious frown on. I'd put his eyebrow muscles toe to toe with anyone in the country. FOOTBAWL IS SERIOUS.
