Big Game Rooting Interests

Submitted by bigmc6000 on
So I was wondering what the general feeling is amongst the MGoUsers about the rivalry games this weekend. I'm torn as to the USC-ND game but don't really have a rooting interest in the UT-OU game (other than my girl being a UT fan I guess that answers that question). As for the USC-ND game I'm obviously conflicted (I think most are) on one hand we have ND and we hate them and they suck and *insert we hate rival verbiage here.* However, on the other hand, should ND win that means Front Butt might not get fired (woo!) and, almost as important, Clausen might be viewed as one of the top QB prospects in the land and considering the rookie salary cap starting next season (most likely) would be likely to leave and that would be awesome so we don't have to deal with him next year. Thoughts?

In regards to ND v. USC. I would rather somehow both teams manage to not win. But, as much as I hate to say it, we should want ND to win (and it does pain me). It would make that win over ND earlier in the year even more impressive when it comes to bowl selections.

USC: I love Pete Carroll and Notre Dame is fucking stupid. Texas: "Hook'em horns" is not nearly as dumb as "Boomer Sooner"...plus there is something about those Texas broads that I like.

I actually think that ND will win the game this week. USC has been rather blah all year. ND looks to have a real legit offense and Clausen seems like a Heisman candidate. Weis is desperate and seems to finally have a team this year. I think Texas will put OU away in the fourth. rivalry game means its gonna be tough. McCoy is destined for a NC and a Heisman and i will be rooting for him

I wanna see the underdogs take it. USC needs to be knocked down, its more beneficial to Michigan's long term success if Petey quits taking everyone's 4 and 5 star recruits. Plus our win looks better, fwiw, and it means ND ends up getting into the BCS and probably getting schooled like usual. I like Texas, but I also like BCS chaos scenarios as well.

with a burning passion, but I'm ALMOST to the point where I'm sick enough of Pete and the Tommy Trojans to secretly and very quietly root for an Irish victory. Would make our win over them look better. Could care less about Texas-Oklahoma.

co-sign on Tex-OK. Except I hope both McCoy & Bradford throw 5+ INTs and also have a few fumbles. Since we don't have a shot at the national championship or any heisman contenders, I want all hell to break loose.

So we can spend the next 2000 years hearing about how Tebow was the greatest thing to ever put on a pair of cleats and single handedly cured cancer, AIDS and rescued little suzy's cat from the top of a 300 ft tree all at the same time? No thanks, I'll take McCoy and letting the "who's the best CFB player?" debate live on.

We want ND to win so that Weis can continue the tradition of mediocrity. Also, if ND can go 11-1, Clausen might jump for the NFL, which would help us next year.

I hate Notre Dame. Never in a million years could I pull for them to win. I hope they lose by 35. Who's the guy with something in his signature file about Notre Dame vs Nazi Germany?... Maybe a 10-2 ND team brings Fat Ass Weis back and gets Jimmy to playing on Sundays. Colt McCoy seems like a winner though, so lets have him get a win at the Red River dealie.

I’m not sure why people don’t like Carroll. Sure he picks up the best talent in the nation, but that to me is not reason to hate the guy. I think he’s a good coach who is good with his players. Notre Dame on the other hand, I don’t like and would love to see them get destroyed by SC. I am not ready for ND to become a national power yet and if they beat SC that’ll boost them up. I want OU over texas because I like cincy and that could boost them up which might take some recruits from osu…I doubt it but who knows.

Can't stand Carroll because after they win, or sometimes in the middle of the game - including every time he's beaten us in the rose bowl, he does this stupid little dance on the sidelines all the while flashing his trademark shit eating grin. You stay classy, Pete! FUPA is a cocky schmuck but at least he isn't dancing on the sidelines during a win... That, and the fact that our ND victory would look that much better, is why I will root for ND this weekend.

but I have serious doubts. They'll miss Michael Floyd this week, as they face the toughest defense they'll see all year; Trojans have only given up 43 pts in their first five games. ND defense? Well, since their opening game shutout over Nevada: M, MSU and Washington have each scored more points on ND than their season averages to date; but ND did hold Purdue to 21 pts in W. Layfayette. Does not bode well. USC by two touchdowns.
UT/OU : couldn't care less who wins; just want to see a good, close game.

Rooting for USC. I'd love for USC to pick up a second loss and be gone from NC talks, but I think they'll lose to Oregon anyway. Additionally, I DO NOT WANT ANY JIMMY HEISMAN SCENARIOS. Losing to M and USC in the same year would make that improbable. And in regards to Weis staying on, I think ND will finish with 2 losses and make a BCS bowl, keeping him around anyway.

Both games come down to QB play. I think McCoy is as good as anyone in the country, and he will be hard to beat at home. Plus, Stoops seems to never win a big game anymore. As far as USC, if they can overcome having a freshman QB on the road, than they will win. If they can't, and Clausen goes off then we will be hearing about the return of glory to Notre Dame Football the rest of the year. By the way I cannot root for Notre Dame to win no matter how much I hate USC, I hate Notre Dame more.

I'd like to see a close ND loss for various reasons: 1. Can't root for Weiss, just can't. 2. Ditto for ND 3. A blow out might get Weiss canned. 4. A close game will keep Weiss at ND. 5. We have more recruiting battles with ND than USC.

I find it really interesting that most of the discussions here revolve around USC-ND with OU-TX as an afterthought. This is pretty contradictory to the survey results from ESPN. I had a feeling this was way off or simply a product of ESPN's own hype of the Red River shoutout. Thoughts?

Each team has multiple conferences championships and a National Championship in the past decade. Their past 10 games have been split 6-4.
USC has seven straight conference championships and a National Championship in the last decade. ND has played in two BCS bowls, neither the championship game. USC taken the last seven games in their series with ND, with score differentials of 35, 38, 20, 3, 31, 20, 31 pts; one close game in the last seven. ND did win the three game before Pete Carroll arrived at USC.
Bottom line: OU-UT is a bigger rivalry, but I'm more interested in the outcome of the team we play every year.

Around my neck of the woods it is hard to spot ND fans. On the other hand I will see a Land Rover w/ USC license plate frame and out steps a man or woman dressed in USC sideline warmups. The other day I saw a Jeep with the license plate that said "PLYD4SC" I would like to see the game end in a tie. Since that is impossible, I guess I want ND to win. It will be sweet to bag on all of my SC friends.

ND because a win might be enough to push Clausen out of school, and it would make Michigan's win look a bit better. Plus, ND would be more likely to be overrated when we play them next year. Assuming we beat them (gulp!), it could make for a nice start to the season. As for Florida, while the rest of the world is getting tired of Tebow, there is a fun side-note for those of us Wolverine folk living in Ohio. Buckeye fans are really, really nervous that Archie Griffin's status as only two-time Heisman trophy winner will end this year. So, for me, it's a case of "the enemy of my enemy is my friend". Also, Michigan beat the Tebow-led Gators a couple of years ago, which somehow makes them more endearing.

I've been rooting for Weis to keep his job, but I think he can afford a loss here. ND's administration will forgive a loss to a top-10 team. It's losses to teams like Boston College that could get Weis fired. Accordingly . . . Fight On Trojans!

see Charlie get another beatdown, I think 38-0 has a nice ring to it. As for OU/UT I despise both teams, but I think I will be pulling for the Sooners because I do not want to see UT in the NC game.
