Best Place to Watch Game in Ann Arbor

Submitted by jweeg on

Hey guys sorry to be that guy but this is my first post. I was planning on bringing my family down to ann arbor today to watch the michigan game and I was wondering where everyone thought the best place was to watch? Remember that I'm bringing two kids so it probably can't be a sports bar. Any help at all would be awesome. Thanks!

area (N of Grand Rapids).  I read the thread earlier in the week about the game only being on ESPNU (MSU and Wuss-consin are on three fucking Comcrap channels).  I thought for sure another station would pick it up.  This is fucking BS.   I'm thinking BWW.

but I was in DuBois this past June and spent some time at a tavern called "The Rustic Tavern" I believe? Bloody Mary's with pickled asparagas were out of this world! They have TV's there, just get a good seat so the the big moosehead doesn't obstruct your view

If they were little little ones and weren't going to pay attention to the game you might have an issue at a sports bar, but I think you will be fine with them most anywhere at 11 and 14.  Honestly at that age, I would almost say to go where the students go, where else would you get better atmosphere than that?  In my time that probably would have been Touchdowns, but that was about 4 bars ago, not sure what would be the spot for the undergrads now...

Pizza House.  Family friendly, lots of TVs, adult beverages, parking structure right across the street.

EDIT: Oh, they are old enough for anything short of 'Skeeps.

Damons would be OK.  More family oriented than most sports bars probably.  Ate there and watched some other games after the Umass game and had a good time.

Co-sign.  I watched a few games at Damon's back when I was in high school - saw the 49-3 thumping of State there, in fact.  Food is good, TVs are huge, and it's a pretty fun overall environment.  BDubs is definitely a possibility as well, and really most of the A2 sports bars are fine, not out of control.

Anybody know if I can watch the game on the computer. I noticed that it won't be on ESPN 3 and I'm stuck at work selling phones all day...lame!

Located on Main Street across from Moe's, this place is family friendly, beer friendly, football friendly... you get the point.  We've taken our three kids there for the past ten years and have always had a good time.  Have fun and Go Blue!

I was going to come into this thread to suggest BW3 and I see a few people speaking against it. I've seen this before and as a former employee there, I was just wondering where all this hate for B dubs comes from.

I personally do not have such high standards, but these are the valid complaints:

Mediocre food;

Shitty service;

When BWs first opened in Ann Arbor, the picture on the "Big Screens" was terrible.  (These obviously could have been upgraded);

Annoying commercials.

The food really is nothing special, but it's decent IMO. As far as the service goes, I didn't have any problems before I started working there and i thought we did a decent job while I was there. Not sure if we had the same projectors as when they opened, but there were sometimes when they could look poor. They looked fine if you weren't at the seat right in front of it though. Don't get me started on the commercials. I had too many friends ask me to "send it into overtime" just to annoy me.

Thanks for putting out the main points for me. I see people talk poorly about it all the time but I've never seen any reasons. I still stand by my opinion that it is a decent place to watch the game.

Will these places be full? Deciding between BWW, Charleys, and the Brown Jug. What time will these places fill up? I'm sure a lot of people don't have ESPN U and a lot of people are going to want food and drinks during the game.

get yourself a EVO phone, like from Sprint, grab yourself a bucket of chicken and a liter of coke, then have the family huddle around and watch it on ESPN 3, that's what I would do...no comments about soundin' like a Buckeye...

Why bring your kids into Ann Arbor for an away game?  That seems pointless.  Watch it on TV or a local bar/eatery closer to your house.  You'll thank me for the less time you spend with the kids whining in the car.

814 Church St.

I lived there my Junior year of college.  It was awesome.

I don't know who lives there now but just tell them a guy on the internet sent you. I'm sure they will understand and if they don't it will be hilarious!
