Beano Cook: Tressel will be gone after next year

Submitted by Wolverine90 on

I did peruse back several pages of this forum and didn't see it, but thought I'd share that on Maisel's section on ESPN, the radio portion has Beano Cook predicting the end of Tressel next year and Urban Meyer taking over.  Not that anyone cares much what Beano Cook says, but he obviously has more inside access than 99% of us, so it was interesting.   He quoted Meyer as saying that aside from Florida the only places he would coach are UM, ND and OSU.  Cook then said "ND is out because Kelly will win, and UM has a new coach who will get 5 years, so Meyer will end up at OSU next year."

Not sure how I feel about it, but honestly, given the last 10 years, any changeat tOSU is welcome.

Except that Urban is also quoted as saying he would stay retired to watch his daughters play collegiate sports... obviously more than one offseason Beano

I'm not so sure of that....

Not bragging....I think my goldfish has more inside access than Beano anymore...

Though I do see a resemblance...

Urban meyer turned down his dream job at notre dame, why do ohio state fans think he's going to come out of retirement and take tressels job? Every buckeye fan for some reason thinks urban meyer is the coach in waiting, "because he is from ohio." I see the chance of this happening about the same as last years tony dungy to minnesota rumor.

I would have absolutely preferred Meyer over Hoke. If Urban comes out of "retirement" next year I'll be even more upset we didn't give Rich Rod one more year.

I'd agree with ya--if I believed there was actually a chance in HELL Michigan really cared about putting NC contenders on the football field with regularity.

Michigan football is a charade. The hiring of Hoke should be the final signal everyone needs to understand UM is NOT interested in playing amongst the Big Boyz anytime soon.

i think it picks up steam not only because he is from ohio but that he went to the university for grad school, has been a life long buckeye fan, and both he and his wife's family grew up and are still there.  i read somewhere that "one of meyers dream jobs" was in fact tOSU.  I think we all know that he will eventually return to coaching and i would imagine it would be less stressful when your friends and family are somewhat close in distance.  As for the rumors he just bought a home outside columbus - i have no idea???   While they are a cash cow and could swing a coach like that very easily, i have to think that coach fickell is also being groomed to possibly take over for tressel.  I think he will be a big time head coach somewhere in the next few years, but as of now nothing from the university has led me to believe tressel will leave - i am only hearing this from fans on opposing blogs and reporters who hope he leaves and have no association with the school.
