BBrown: Possible Preferred Walk-on Giovanni Rescigno

Submitted by Brandon Brown on

This isn't huge news as it involves a preferred walk-on but since I spoke with Giovanni Rescigno I figured I'd post our chat.

Rescigno was at the Nebraska game (sorry to bring that up again) and while the game bummed us all out Rescigno still had a good time taking in a game at The Big House. He's been there a handful of times and says he likes it more and more everytime he goes.

Rescigno doesn't hold any offers right now but he definitely wants to play college ball in some capacity. He won't commit to the idea of taking up the Michigan coaches on the preferred walk-on offer but he is keeping his mind open to the idea. He still plans to visit Toledo, Bowling Green, and Ohio, as well as Michigan again for The Game. He's had some good talks with the coaches already about his potential future as a Wolverine. "The coaches want me to come there and they really like me so it's definitely an option. Obviously if I get a full ride somehwere then that's something I'd take, but I guess we'll see what happens down the road. I'd love to be at Michigan though!"

Rescigno just finished his senior season as the quarterback for Warren De La Salle and was the backup for Shane Morris while he was there. He had this to say about the current Michigan freshman. "Me and Shane are best friends. We were close in high school and we're still close. We have a great friendship." He said that his relationship with Morris is a definite draw to possibly walking on at Michigan.

Rescigno has great size at 6'4", 225 lbs. and spins it pretty well on film. I'd be shocked if he doesn't have an offer from somewhere before it's all said and done. If he doesn't I think he'd be a great candidate for a walk-on position at Michigan.

Quarterback is an odd position. A lot of the top guys commit early and end up recruiting other kids for their class. Then the rest of the slots start to fill up slowly. Since most teams only take one or maybe two quarterbacks, they don't send out a ton of offers. As teams get into November, December, January, etc. without a commit at the position, they'll cast their nets a little wider.

I can't believe this kid doesn't have offers from at least 5 MAC schools already. Nice comfortable feet in the pocket, though sometimes he's throwing off his back. Preferred walk-on? Yes please.

I agree with others - I am stunned that this kid does not have at least a couple mid-major offers because he looks pretty good in the pocket, seems to have a pretty good arm and the ability to go deep and just appears to be quite efficient overall. That, and Giovanni Rescigno is an awesome name to have on a roster.
