BBall Recruiting - New 2020 Target/D.J. Gordon

Submitted by Matt EM on January 25th, 2019 at 8:05 AM

This kid is EXTREMELY undervalued/underranked. Based on everything I've been able to gather, we just entered the picture in mid-December............and I sure hope we can land this kid. Gordon certainly has some Caris Levert type qualities to him in terms of physical stature/late bloomer (this kid even ran with All Ohio Red last year), but I definitely think D.J has more skill than Caris at the same age.

This kid will enter my top 100 regardless of what the major services may think, and I'm predicting he's going to blow up on the national scene in short order.

Well, he looks to fit the mold. Good basketball body. Plays a good, hard, smart all around game-as far as the clip shows. He appears to hold good promise as a quality perimeter shooter.

Otherwise, you clearly have sound knowledge in these regards...and seeing a kid live just totally and unequivocally beats the hell out of these clips!!!

Matt.  Anyway you can put content on this site daily during O.T. season. Hell I dont care if you just put links to your site once a day with no title. The last week has been awesome with your contribution and analysis.  You have my other dream job!

P.S.  Lemme know if EM ever hires

Thank you for the kind words. I just try to compliment the already excellent coverage that Brian and the entire MGo crew provide for the basketball team.......and they've been gracious enough to allow me to link to my site. It's always a pleasure to share information with my fellow M alum/fans and the MGo community in general.

A big "second" on this from me. Basketball is such a deeply nuanced game. Highlight clips are so limited in value-I don't need nor want to see a dunking exhibition! Reports on these kids from someone who has actually seen them and knows how to assess talent, beyond the physical component, is very much appreciated here.

Is he undervalued as a result of his HS? Pittsburgh isn’t a good basketball city, really, and on top of that he’s probably in one of the least competitive areas. I’m from the area and I’ve never even heard of his HS

His lack of ranking isn’t based on HS comp, as he plays for a top 50 team nationally, in First Love Christian that is stacked with D1 talent and plays elite competition. Rankings in contemporary times are based almost exclusively on AAU evaluations. Gordon played for All OH Red last summer (non-shoe circuit) and so he didn’t get exposure.

Madior Seye (20/Dayton Offer), Naim Miller (19/Mount St. Mary's commit), Jett Roesing (20/Mid-Major D1 Offers), Isaiah Wilson (20/Mid-Major + Offers), JJ Eubank (19/High Major Offers), Ja'Mier Fletcher (19/Mid-Major + Offers).

First Love is likely a top 5 team in Pennsylvania, as they just beat Westtown (Cam Reddish's old school featuring high-major prospects Noah Collier, Jalen Gaffney and John Ball Ajak)

Any idea on how long he is willing to wait before deciding. I'll take any Caris Levert comp, but as of right now we don't have a scholarship open. Technically we oversigned but we are pretty sure that Matthews is going pro barring a bad injury. Beyond that, we'd have to wait til Poole or Iggy decide what they're doing or a transfer. The only kids I could see transferring are Brooks or Davis. I don't like to speculate too much on that topic though.
