Baylor fined $2M by Big 12

Submitted by BannerToucher85 on October 30th, 2018 at 9:06 PM

Baylor was fined $2M by the Big 12 for "reputational damage to the conference and its members" in the wake of the sexual assault scandal two years ago.

The Big 10 (I'm looking at you Delany) needs to put on their big boy pants and do the same to MSU. They should have done it the PSU, but that ship has sailed.

See?  Goddammit, I want to upvote this post to infinity!  Because I understand it and I know what it means!  And it's funny!   But, I can't.  I can't even see upvotes/downvotes. And nobody, not even the mod who I asked (twice in the same thread) why I cannot see them, knows why I can't see upvotes/downvotes, and am unable to upvote or downvote posts.

Please, for the love of God, someone tell me why I can't see or upvote awesome, quality content on this quality site, or downvote absolute garbage trolling fuckwittery.  Please.  It's been too long.

MgoHillbilly:  Excellent post.  I wish I could upvote you.

I'm with ya. I haven't been able to see any upvote/downvotes since the upgrade. I thought the thread celebrating the return of points was a passive aggressive protest, but alas it appears the ship rescued the survivors from the island while I was still in the bushes relieving myself.

The B1G absolutely did punish Penn State in July 2012.  $13MM in fines (non-shared conference revenue).

And they said this:

"The accepted findings support the conclusion that our colleagues at Penn State, individuals that we have known and with whom we have worked for many years, have egregiously failed on many levels -- morally, ethically and potentially criminally"

"They have failed their great university, their faculty and staff, their students and alumni, their community and state -- and they have failed their fellow member institutions in the Big Ten Conference. For these failures, committed at the highest level of the institution, we hereby condemn this conduct and officially censure Penn State."

The NCAA also fined PSU $60M. PSU accepted the fine to avoid the Death Penalty. Then, the fine was challenged in court. PSU and the NCAA settled by agreeing to spend the fine in the state of Pennsylvania.

Serious question: how can you continue to be a Nittany fan? My uncle went to PSU. He used to be a fan. Not anymore.

Easy

My family is Penn at fans/grads plus my father in law and my best friend. They just ignore that whole chapter and pretend Franklin fixes everything. They also spend their time bashing us and Harbaugh and spout off about how they overcame such sanctions to win the Big 10...

Can't you be a fan of the team and the university without having to support JoePa and his sycophants? If something happened at Michigan, I would scream bloody murder to fire and jail the people responsible...and then continue to be a fan of Michigan Man ideals.

That's the worst part of most of these scandals: the administration and fans seem to be incapable of separating the concept of the university from the men/women who violate its principles. All they had to do was denounce and fire the perpetrators and they could be heroes. Instead they chose to deny, circle the wagons, and try to wait it out. Fuck those people.

I guess my point is that we shouldn't question anyone's fandom if they're not trying to defend the indefensible in the first place.

And fuck Penn State. That is all.

Yeah, I agree with this sentiment.

Maybe it's because I live in PA, so I have many friends and family members who are PSU fans, but I don't have a problem with people who are PSU fans.

But, people who have the "409 - You Can't Change History" bumper stickers can fuck right off.

A technical point, but PSU wasn't a party to the lawsuit that regarded the $60MM fine.

FWIW, I did take the November 2011 (scandal breaks) to July 2012 (Freeh Report release, NCAA involvement) period off as a fan, to see how the situation unfolded.

I was generally (not universally) happy with the PSU response during those 8 months, so I came back into the fold.

Agree there should be serious repercussions for programs like this, but what does this money go towards? Does it do any actual good or just line the pockets of the conference?

Or Brett Kavanaugh maybe. Or even you I guess.

Everytime I read your posts, I think about the day you had to explain to your boys why you voted for the racist carnival barker spreading horrible lies about Obama's citizenship. Supporting that guy was, I hope, a low point in your life but I'm a less  optimistic person everyday. Glad I wasn't there for that day, it is awfully pathetic in my imagination.

Theres no such thing as selective morality. You either have it, or you don't.

Piss off. XM has more character and decency than someone like you ever will. Trying to shame someone over their political views is like shaming someone over their choice of religion. It's tasteless and wrong.  We all have the right to like, or dislike, whichever candidate or party we want for whatever reasons we want. We come here to be united in our love for Michigan regardless of our politics and religion.

wow, you had to store that one up for years and then you got it all wrong.

i do my best to steer away from politics on this site, but will dip my toe in here to say this: hillary was the one who jumped obama about his citizenship during their primary fight.  i was decidedly more a fan of him than her.  feel better now?

Hello Rodriguesqe,

You know better than to post stuff like that. You’ve been blocked for now. A review of your posting history doesn’t reveal anything resembling this. How about you take a week off from posting. Have a great night!
