(Believe in Beilein)

Nothing in here about the Basketball team. Not worried at all about the game Saturday against W. Michigan as Beilein has the team smoking hot and working well. Same for Binghampton. But that gets followed the 6th of Jan. with Indiana, and that will be a tough one. The Hoosiers are cranking out the wins too

Any thoughts about the roundballers you would like to share like to share?

This team has great potential. However we’re capping our potential with the bench the way it is. Livers and brooks are decent pieces off the bench but we need another guy or two. I know it’s beating a dead horse but Beilein needs to get Johns ready. Davis literally cripples the team in every which way. Two straight games now we’ve had a great flow going, he comes in, and the whole team dies.

No, I believe hot takes are being solicited here, possibly for later use as standalone threads. Actually, depending on the take, I can almost guarantee that some of them will show up at some point in the season as threads.

I could be wrong, of course.

Although I don't really understand the purpose of this thread, it seems appropriate to share this Beilein anecdote of mine:

It was early 2012 and we were coming off our first B10 championship since '86; I was working at the Delonis Center, the homeless shelter in Ann Arbor.  Coach was making arrangements with our development staff to have the team serve food during one of our daily meals.  Unfortunately that didn't work out due to scheduling stuff, but it was Coach's mission to make sure his players were positive role models in the community.

I had no role in any of this, I was just the intake guy, but I couldn't resist introducing myself.  I told coach how proud I was of the way the team was playing and Coach put it all on the kids.  He said he couldn't tell me how great the kids were, and that it was all on their work and attitude.  I shook his hand and thanked him anyway.  He was the most humble man I'd ever met, yet I felt like a million bucks after talking to him for two minutes.  His energy is incredible and infectious and made me feel inspired even though he barely said anything to me.

Beilein will probably always be my favorite coach because of this, but it sure doesn't hurt that he's damn good at it too.

I met him at an alumni event back in 2012. He was the nicest, most down-to-earth public figure I've ever met (not that I've met a ton of public figures, but still). He even went out of his way to talk with the staff and volunteers at the event and thanked each of them personally for their work. Genuine class.

My early expectations were for them to finish near the top of the B1G, show well in the conference tourney then have a healthy run in the NCAAs. Now it feels like Final Four or bust.

I can't count the number of times in the past 10 years or so that I've taken solace in the basketball program's successes after yet another football disappointment. Our B1G football championship drought is entering its sixteenth year (!) and our winless streak against Ohio State is entering its eight year, and yet the basketball program keeps hanging banner after banner. I'm sure we'll turn things around in football eventually, but until then, thank Jesus/Allah/Buddah/Ganesh/Science for basketball.

Uhhh....so what are we supposed to be doing here? I feel like Marshall Mathers in the booth at the Michigan football game.

Today at 2pm the roundballers take on the W, Michigan Broncos. The game is on BTN.

The Broncos stand at 5-4 so far this year so they will be 5-5 after today. They feature 3 players who average double figures and Michael Flowers hit a career high 25 in his last game.

Of course I expect the undefeated team to beat the Broncos like a tied up goat.
