Bacon's Good in Indy

Submitted by UM Indy on

Heard John Bacon speak in Indianapolis last night.  As I'm sure you all know, he gives a funny and engaging talk about how Three and Out transpired, etc.  I guess the one bit of news that emerged for me (others may know this) is that the unidentified SEC school mentioned in the book that had chicks waiting for recruits in their beds was Florida ... under Urban Meyer.  Shocking I know.  Meet the new boss, same as the old boss.

What beds were the chicks actually waiting in where they knew the recruits were going to go into while on a recruiting trip?  Did Tebow have a chick waiting for him?

I remember the book mentioning Devin and Denard talking about this in the book, but I do not recall either of them saying it happened to them. I will check when I get my book back lol.

This is why the most useful part of the OSU sanctions is the extra probation, not the bowl ban, or even the scholarships.

It keeps the white-hot magnifying glass directly on Meyer's ass.  He won't be able to pull this kind of crap like he did at FL, and you know he would try.

However, I am suspicious about the conspiracy of silence that exists in Columbus. If it wasn't for an unrelated federal investigation into the Tattoo Parlor, I wonder if anything at all would have come out in Columbus. I really am furious with Tressel. That guy regularly gave talks about integrity and faith. If he had any integrity at all, he should have publicly said, "what I did was wrong. I was dishonest, and did not practice what I preached and taught. I didn't keep promises I had made. I was a hypocrite. I ask your forgiveness."

If he has done this publicly, I haven't seen any evidence of it. If he hasn't, then why should he be forgiven? Regarding forgiveness, I am more than willing to offer it, but that doesn't mean that there aren't and shouldn't be lasting consequences to Tressel's bad choices.

Meyer I know much less about. But he certainly has the responsibility to speak the truth, and to do the right thing, and to be very much in touch with compliance. Tressel presented himself as "not knowing" what was going on. Number one, this was false. But number two, I think he did shield himself from knowing details. Meyer needs to stay in touch with that.

It seems strange that a program would take it to the level of having girls waiting in the recruits beds.  Why make it look that organized?  It seems like you could just have a party/reception/social gathering and invite a group of women who were dedicated fans of the program.  At that point all the program did was host a gathering where the recruits get to spend time with other players and students.  If some of the female students/fans decide to show the recruits a good time to help the program out, so be it.  In the end you would get the same result for your recruits without the direct appearance that the program was providing women to sway recruits.

on that HBO special about football players being paid, this was mentioned at OSU..

The guy that ended up at Auburn said on his recruiting trip to OSU, they were at a party and the players giving the tour told him to pick out any girl..  Then the girl slept with him apparently..

Pathetic that sports have gone to that level.  Pretty sad
