My prayers are with Austin. For being only 16, he's gone through a lot more in life than many people 2-3x his age.

The surviving dog's name is Brady too.

There's also a new journal entry from the Hatch family on Austin's CaringBridge page:

We continue to be optimistic that Austin will make steady (but slow) progress. Most days bring new and positive evidence. We are engaging close family members in the therapy process. We are extremely grateful for all of the prayers and support of so many wonderful people through this website and by other means. Through you all, the Lord has and is providing great strength to Austin and us.

to the very moving article.

I'd love to see him play basketball for U of M and, moreso, get his undergrad and med school degrees here.

Best wishes to Austin and the Hatch family!

What a wonderfully written story about a father who seems to be a class act, and parents who cared deeply for Austin. As a person who experienced similar injuries, including head trauma, and still attended UofM...I have the hopes and confidence that Austin will prevail. Good luck buddy, hang in there.

We're all critical of ESPN a lot here, including me, but this story told the story in a matter worthy of the Hatch family.

Hopefully, he will someday be known as Dr Hatch, and will have gotten his degree from the University of Michigan.

A tremendous young man with a great family.  This is exactly the type of high character kid that exemplifies what Michigan is all about.  Hope so much that he makes it to Michigan and make everyone around him better.
