Solomon transferring per Brett McMurphy's Twitter

Section 1.8

Speaking of the whims of 17- to 21-year old kids, a topic that seems to occasionally pop up are the rules requiring transfers to sit out a year, except for prescribed circumstances.  Those exceptional prescribed circumstances seem okay to me; I can think of a number of situations in which a matter that came about through no fault of the player could merit an exception.

But in the end, I think that it is a base-line rule that needs to be in place.  To prevent the whims of 17- to 21-year olds, and the avarice of some 40- to 65-year olds in coaching and administration, from using transfers to mess up college football's traditions and balance and focus on academics.

So, if this is a true rumor, have a nice year off, young Mr. Solomon.  Did you take up golf or anything interesting this past season?

That's the crazy part. He's going to take a year off to go play somewhere else. If everything went as expected, he'd be a top performer for this defense in 2019 and could be an NFL draft pick in April of 2020 -- 5 months before he'll see a college football field again.

He either didn't think this through at all or he reeeeaaaally didn't want to be here anymore.

This stuff happens. As I've posted before, I was a college wrestler (not at UM). For the 4 years I was on the varsity squad, each year our coach brought in a 3 or 4 time state champ to take my spot.  THAT WAS HIS JOB! I understood it and relished the opportunity to put those guys in their place...that was my spot!

This happened across all weight classes, with a bunch of "all star" transfers. Kids were great in HS and want to see the mat. I actually enjoyed finding out they transferred, took pride in making them look elsewhere (and sitting a year because they thought they could take my spot!)

Just an observation from a guy who saw it live. I know it's a different sport, but I'm pretty sure the attitude is similar.

Not sure why you're down voted for something college coaches have to do.  We've been seeing a lot of defections lately to the point where it's getting very concerning.

Saban can manage to keep 4-5 star guys on the roster without transferring, despite waiting behind other guys for a year or two.  This is something Harbaugh will have to figure out.

I don't think anybody really knows at this point.

You could tell me tomorrow that Harbaugh was taking the Packers job and I would not even flinch.

You could tell me right now that Daxton Hill recommitted to Michigan and declared his ever enduring love for Michigan and it would not surprise me.

It appears to be chaos, lacking in rhyme or reason.

This comment isn’t that far off - I am by no means saying Michigan is better off with him transferring - I’m just not sold on future impact - AS wasn’t an Ed Oliver for sure - could he have become Quinnen Williams in his third year?  We will never know, but it is highly unlikely - AS has significantly more reps on tape through his first two years than Q Williams did and the film doesn’t show a five star, high impact player - he certainly would have been a nice rotational player at a position of need which is why this stings as much as it does

I don't believe any of these "insiders" until it is confirmed.  Fuck them.

EDIT:  Looks confirmed.  Fuck me...

This is my main issue with recruiting players from the Deep South and West Coast - they don't seem to stick for the long haul at times.

I agree with this observation  - Michigan has had touch and go relationships with student athletes from warm climates - Some like Anthony Carter and Tom Brady ended up staying - recently Devin Asiasi and now Solomon have decided to leave - I also agree with those pointing out depth is a concern - Hinton may move inside if he doesn’t want to move to OT

What a stupid thing to write. Georgia isn't competing with Alabama now (unless you mean they are in the same conference, then yes), they are not in the playoffs. They are in a New Years 6 bowl just like Michigan and they won their division just like Michigan did. They also failed to win their conference just like Michigan.

The doom and gloom and around here is astounding.

We did not win our division, that's participation trophy pathetic bullshit. GA lost respectably to the best team in their conference (and the country), and we got embarrassed. Two large differences. Any neutral observer in the country would put a bet on GA over M as to who has the most upside the next few years.

That bet could be wrong and I hope it is. But GA is a better program than we are right now.
