Close, 47, is part of an induction class that also includes former Michigan basketball coach Johnny Orr, longtime tennis coach Brian Eisner, softball player Sara Griffin, swimmer Alecia Humphrey and cross country and track star Molly McClimon.

On his playing career, it's always interesting to see someone tear it up at one level (the AA equivalent, according to observers) and not make it past the next one.  Did he start having trouble (a la Drew Henson) when he started seeing Major League curveballs?  I wonder.

Anyway, I enjoyed the article.  It's a good example of how success depends on hard work, competence, and good fortune.

Henson was ruined by Steinbrenner. Ole Georgy was way to upset at how good a QB he was for Michigan and paid him a fortune (at least for a minor league contract) to play minor league ball so that OSU would not have to see him again. Then allowed Henson to wallow away as he didn't really intend to do anything with him, he just wanted him out of a Michigan uniform.

It works for me.
