Arnett situation made (my) Yahoo! frontpage, first story

Submitted by samsoccer7 on

The D. Arnett situation, in a write-up by Dr. Saturday, made the very first post of my Yahoo! homepage.  This is probably targeted so it may not occur for everyone, but it's definitely going to hit a wider audience than most transfer requests.  This can only be good, and may eventually lead to some sort of balanced rule-making across the board.  I do believe UT will eventually let him go to any non-SEC or scheduled OOC opponent, especially if the pressure mounts.

Here's a link to the actual article:

Only one man can resolve this situation.

Sorry, posting pictures of certain people tend to provoke people who like to be provoked. Sorry.

Especially after the shit that has gone down in the past year, these universities should really consider giving their coaches some lessons in public relations and image. Ok, so you have a policy. Sometimes, policies are outdated or just down right stupid. Nobody cares about these athletic department policies. Everybody should just want to avoid taking the villian role in the public's eyes right now. Yep, losing one wide receiver will make the difference between making a BCS bowl and not even showing up in your conference's win photo.

How did Tressel "damn" his players?  If you mean that he let them do whatever they wanted thereby not teaching them any real world lessons then I understand, otherwise, please explain.

This situation has an obvious solution. Hopefully folks will use their brains to resolve it. I'd hate to see him go to state, but all that matters is that he is released to make his own decision for his family.

Apparently Derek Dooley feels justified due to his years of success in the ESS EEE CEE to act like a complete jackass?

Oh, I forgot, 1 - 7 in the SEC East....Derek, you're not even going to last until Arnett's senior year...

Side note...I wonder how many Sparties think he's really going to end up there?

I wonder what Danny O'Brien thinks of all of this.  Seeing his future coach be a dick to his home state teams and wondering what might happen if for some reason he ever sought a transfer closer to home, I can't imagine this has slipped past his attention.

"As of right now, Tennessee isn't scheduled to play Michigan or Michigan State in the foreseeable future, and has no other Michigan natives on its roster."

Danny is not on the roster yet.

I don't think I could follow through with my commitment knowing about this situation!  Are his options still open?

Didn't Miami try the same tactics on Robert Marve?  Not allowing him to transfer in-state?  If I remember correctly, didn't Marve's father (Eugene, from Saginaw Valley) suffered from a serious illness as well?

I'm currently in an argument with this dumb girl that went to UT whose response to me was Dooley doesn't make the rules. It's funny when people give their opinion but have no idea what they're talking about.

For example, his dad has been sick for years. If it truly was a significant factor why would he have left Michigan in the first place?  Why would he really care where he transfers if his dad's health was his number priority? If it were me I'd leave no matter what the conditions were.

It appears that Arnett wants to leave Tennessee to transfer back to Michigan(probably MSU) to play in the Big Ten. Otherwise it makes little sense for Arnett to make such a big deal about being refused an immediate release to UM or MSU. He can still transfer to either school, but he would have to sit out a year. Why the hurry

I tend to think that Arnett wants to go to MSU. They lose most of their receivers and his immediate release would permit him to compete in the spring for early playing time.

"If it truly was a significant factor why would he have left Michigan in the first place?" It is possible that his father's condition worsened. Or he may have been convinced that going to UT was in the best interest of everyone for the long term and came to recognize that he was needed at home immediately.

"Why would he really care where he transfers if his dad's health was his number priority?" Because he is also interested in his own future, which I imagine would also fall somewhere very high on his list of priorities.

"If it were me I'd leave no matter what the conditions were." It is my understanding that DeAnthony intends to leave regardless of the terms of his release. He is just asking that he be allowed to attend the university that will afford him the best education and opportunity to further develop his skills as a football player.

If he is good enough he will be noticed no matter where he plays. The NFL does a much better job of finding talent then they did 20 years. WMU, CMU, and EMU all have produced NFL receivers. Jennings(WMU) is better than anyone UM or MSU has produced in the past 10-12 years.Brown(CMU) and Walter(EMU) are solid receivers.

Sure, one would prefer to attend  UM or MSU, but in his situation going to a MAC school is not a death knell for his career as a NFL receiver.

I hope Arnett realizes that the last WR from Saginaw High to go to MSU had a glass collarbone and passed out drunk at a Mexican restaurant in the middle of the day.
