What's the matter? he didn't defend Sparty aggressively enough against all of the unfair criticism?

Getting fired from MSU is quite an achievement few are capable of

“What’s a guy gotta do to get fired around here?”
January 16th, 2019 at 12:22 PM ^
Free Press and Indy Star (who broke the Nassar story) are now reporting this.
January 16th, 2019 at 12:23 PM ^
Purely from a public relations standpoint, Engler has been a fireman who brings a can of gasoline to each conflagration. That's not how you're supposed to do things when you're supposedly working in cleanup mode after a major scandal.
In other words, if he had simply kept his pie hole shut, he'd still have a job tomorrow.
January 16th, 2019 at 12:26 PM ^
I mean, I would be almost positive that this is the subject of the BOT's meeting tomorrow morning. What is sad is that it took this many missteps for them to realize just how bad and how embarrassing a move this was. The Michigan State crisis management / public relations folks were apparently underutilized at best, to put it kindly, according to a few people talking this morning on the radio, which is just unconscionable in a moment like the one they were facing.
January 16th, 2019 at 12:36 PM ^
It also took an election.
January 16th, 2019 at 12:56 PM ^
Engler previously had enough allies on the BoT to where he could be shielded from most of this. I don't know how many members of the BoT were overturned after the elections (don't live in the state anymore), but I have to imagine that some of his buddies were voted out of office and replaced with more sensible people. People who have been looking for any way they could to remove Engler as soon as humanly possible.

/resigns
/another shitbrain jock sniffer appointed to protect the programs

If this is true and Engler is out can someone please put Section 1.8 on suicide watch?
January 16th, 2019 at 12:46 PM ^
Nothing sounds official yet, but if it does turn out to be true, then thank the gods....
I don't use this term lightly, but John Engler is a cancer. You can't argue with cancer, reason with it, or negotiate with it. Cancer doesn't care what you think, and is indifferent to whether or not it ruins your plans or hurts your feelings. So how do you beat cancer? Rip it out. Forcefully, if necessary. There is no conversation about it. Cut it out and discard it.
I don't care what side of the political aisle you find yourself on. If this is how you treat these kinds of situations, mocking sexual assault survivors and portraying them to be conspiring money-hungry opportunists looking to make a quick buck, then you are not worth the chair you sit on.
January 16th, 2019 at 1:04 PM ^
Engler is just a manifestation of the cancer. The cancer is the culture at MSU. Which is much harder to cure.
January 16th, 2019 at 1:21 PM ^
Part of it is trustee Joel Ferguson, who "disagreed that Engler needed to be fired during a phone interview Tuesday." Sparty gonna spart.
Trustee Briana Scott says the board has the votes to fire Engler.
January 16th, 2019 at 1:00 PM ^
He was a lousy governor. I'm beginning to think he's just a terrible human being.
January 16th, 2019 at 1:11 PM ^
Was there Pudding missing in the cafeteria?
January 16th, 2019 at 1:13 PM ^
It's one thing to be evil. It's another thing to be evil and run your mouth about how evil you are.
MSU tied themselves to this asshole. Why they didn't fire him at least a year ago is beyond me.
January 16th, 2019 at 4:14 PM ^
Because MSU LIKES HIM!
Have you been to RCMB? The whole Nassar saga is all the fault of "The Media" (ESPN), and "SJW" (apparently that's the right-wing term for sexual assault survivors) that wanted to bankrupt MSU with frivolous lawsuits.
January 16th, 2019 at 1:20 PM ^
Unfortunately Engler did exactly what he was brought in to do. Protect Mork and Izzo and keep the focus on Nassar. Hard to believe anyone would want this job. Mork and Izzo both recruit questionable kids and the whole athletic department is still a cesspool.
January 16th, 2019 at 1:23 PM ^
He should take Ferguson along with him.
January 16th, 2019 at 2:21 PM ^
When one of your trustees publicly says you're not just a bully, but a mean spirited human being, it's time to look in the mirror, shave your demonic, pointy eye brows down a bit, disappear for a while and develop a healthy drinking habit.
January 16th, 2019 at 3:07 PM ^
What stooge will they put in that position next?
January 16th, 2019 at 3:10 PM ^
So they finally decided to flush this gigantic turd down the toilet. Hopefully this is just the beginning of the new BOT and they will clean up the rest of University. Time will tell.
January 16th, 2019 at 3:14 PM ^
As much as he is the gift that keeps giving I suppose it’s better for society if he is put out to pasture.
Anyone want to go cow tipping this weekend?
January 16th, 2019 at 3:41 PM ^
Good. May the door hit him in the ass on the way out.
January 16th, 2019 at 3:43 PM ^
Thank God. He should have been canned months ago.
January 16th, 2019 at 3:54 PM ^
The dude was a fucking clown and as tone deaf as a headstone.
Good riddance and credit to MSU's regents for doing the right thing.
