Is anyone going to the Gator Bowl?

Submitted by beastcoastinc on

I've got my tickets, but aside from the game, I'm not looking forward to New Years in jacksonville.  Anyone live there or spend time there...and knows what's going on for the holiday?

I am going. We will be staying with some friends in Jacksonville. We are planning on going to the pep rallies, the band competition, and whatever else is going on near the riverwalk.

Meeting my pops there. He lives in fl and I'm in SC. They have a decent little downtown bar area so NYE should be ok. Not that I'll be bar hopping with my dad!

I'm scheduled to go to Ft Myers for work Dec 27th for a few days. If that happens, i'll drive up to Jacksonville for New Years Eve and stay for the game.  Unfortunatly I won't know for sure if i'm going until right before.  If I do, i'll post up.

Finally bought plane tickets today. My god they have gotten a lot more expensive than when bowl selections were announced. Does anyone know of a specific bar that hosts a good NYE in Jacksonville (other than the party at the airport)?

I live in Jacksonville, and it's not bad. The landing near the stadium is a cool spot and the st johns towncenter in southside has a bunch of "upscale" clubs that will be packed for NYE.

I've heard from UF/UGA people that Jax wasn;t too great. They had a good time b/c of the game ..etc but didn;t say much about the surrounding area. The Landing for example was dismissed as pretty crappy. Similar to Underground Atlanta which we have here and that place sucks (tourist trap, shady, and crappy nightlife).

I'm probably going to spend the 30-31st down in St. Augstine (I'm headed on this trip with the GF so gotta through some romantic stuff in haha).

That being said we will spend pretty much all day/night in Jax on the 1st. What do you recommend for after the game in Jax? You said st john towncenter was good? Would that be a good place to bar hop on the 1st? any info would be appreciated. thanks

FWIW, we'll probably be staying near Southpoint (half way btwn Jax and St. Augustine). Thanks again. Go Blue!

I'm heading down the 27th and staying at Disney World for a few days and then heading to Amelia Island and staying with the team at the Omni over there.  Should be a great break from classes, still wish we had a longer winter break though.

I'm looking forward to the game and hope we crush MSU as I currently live in SEC country. I might have a spare ticket if anyone is interested, just waiting to see if friend can make it.

yeah im flying down on thursday and leaving sunday.  One of the players dads is going to try to get me press passes to go to all the functions so I have my figners crossed.  I have an ex-gf that lives down there and all she does is drink, so she loves it.  I might drive down from VA because its only $30 a day to rent a car which is cheaper than the flight.

I hear there are plenty of places to drink and if there are that many Wolverine fans, I'm pretty sure that it will be something like Ann Arbor in October...Hopefully I can avoid the drunk bar fight with a classless MSU fan...

I'm going with a bunch of my friends, we're all seniors and we'll be staying in the downtown area. Does anybody know much about the nightlife options downtown?
