Any McGuffie news?

Submitted by Promote RichRod on
Tom or other insiders: have you heard anything more about McGuffie? It is kind of weird that he was so close to being gone and we haven't heard a word since. Obviously, no news is good news with a thing like this, but I'd like to know if anything else is coming down the wire. Yes, this post is partly prompted by the Rivals headline that he was a no-show at some random banquet. I'm easily scared (though not nearly as bad as Jay).

That "random banquet" is the year-end Football Bust, which is a pretty big tradition (although admittedly more important for the Seniors). That's where they hand out the team awards and where seniors are given their "M" rings. It's kind of a big deal that he didn't show up, although there could be a reason other than he's no longer playing football at Michigan.

Given the family issues he's had, maybe he's at home dealing with some of these things. Agreed that it doesn't look good, but hopefully he'll be able to work things out over winter break and come back. If not, good luck to him wherever he ends up.

I actually saw McGuffie in person the day before Thanksgiving at the O'Hare Airport in Chicago. Didn't get a chance to talk to him, I assume he was headed back to Texas for the holiday. Anyway, I can tell you with certainty that he was maize and blue from head to toe, and his girlfriend(assumed), was also rockin A maize and blue "Michigan Cheerleader" shirt. So if that's any indication, I believe young Samuel will be back in 09. Put some weight on the kid, stroke the ego a bit, and he'll be fine.

good to hear. but, why didn't you say something like 'stay at michigan, we want you. we NEED you'. i saw tate forcier and basically told him the same thing at the utah game. apparently he had already committed an hour before that but i'd like to think that i made a strong impression on him.

We're getting word that McGuffie is again expected to transfer, FWIW. Now that I've posted this I expect him to change his mind sometime in the next fifteen minutes.

That was a joke, but this isn't news yet. It hasn't officially happened. Again, like Brian said, let's not all freak out yet. I was told some things earlier this week that go a long with this, just a little more in depth. BUT, until it's official, it's not official. There's RUMORS that he's thinking about TCU and Texas Tech. I'm pretty sick of this though, to be honest. Ever since the initial conversation with Fred, I've wanted him to just make the best decision for him and go with it. It seems like after the initial convo they talked him into staying, he went home thougt about it some more, came back and decided it wasn't going to work. But, we will see what the final word is. We'll let you know once we find out if he decides to stay or go. So, don't freak out yet, and I'm not saying this is official...to reiterate, I have no power if he changes his mind, this is just what has happened so far.

I agree with you and only wish the best for him. I don't think he will have a better experience at TCU or Tech. They will only be closer to home. On a side note I hear that Auburn lost 5 verbals today. Do we have intrest in any of Auburn's recruits?

I found this article on how he is doing. It seems like he finally got his head on right. After quitting the sport because he lost the passion he has renewed his love of the game and is playing arena ball with aspirations to make it to the nfl. He was ridiculous at football and his story shows what happens when these high schoolers are promised the world. http://aceofsports.blogspot.com/2008/07/where-you-at-kelly-baraka-editi…

the word is in!!! he is on his way to live on campus at Texas Tech... eat lucky charms at his parents house... play football at TCU... get an endorsement from the chocolate covered pretzels "FLIPZ"... take online classes at CAL... and fax in his tests and homework at the last minute when the professors are about to give up on him. all to drop the classes at the last minute.

if he's in he's in. If he's not then thats fine too. Its probably not going to make or break us. I just can't wait until its decided one way or the other. The constant speculation is annoying.

He seriously should consider a quiet life of academics and a nice 9-5 job after. From a purely selfish Michigan perspective, I would rather he make the decision right now than wait till next fall and bail on us. At least we can use that scholarship to take chance on a fringe DE or LB or maybe even a 3-4* snake oil permitting.
