The Announcers

Submitted by Ziff72 on

I really like the announcing crew of Spielman and Meyer.  Not often I feel like I learn something watching a gamer, but they do a great job of doing an insta UFR on replays.

Today was extra entertaining as Spielman played the role of B. Cook just pounding the fact Denard needs to run and run from the gun, Meyer was entertainig as the grumpy old blue yelling get off my lawn, turnovers.

When Meyer was pounding Denard for thye pick, Spielman asked if he would pull him sarcastically, when Meyer actually said he might Spielman spent the next 2.5 hours needling him every cahance he could.

Spielman must be amped for the game next week, because he was on fire today, making fun of Urban and Michigan while dolling out some good insight.

I don't think I've ever heard a TV announcer that I really love. Obviously there's Keith Jackson, but he retired before I really got into football. Our radio crew (not just Michigan, but the Detroit sports too) is awesome

i thought they were pretty good today. better than the previous 2 mich games they've done this year. although early in the game when spielman said denard had been running without passion kind of made me go wtf. i don't know how you measure passion while running. also his two comments about the amount of days since michigans last victory over ohio were grating but not unexpected.

More importantly, did anyone see the video advertisements on the Big House video screens today near the end of halftime?  Have there ever been ads before?  Even if they were "nonprofit"?  Really worried that Dave Brandon is getting quite "showy" with these flyovers and new costumes every game.

I just wish Spielman used proper grammar when speaking.  "Should've chose" and "Should've went" should be unacceptable on any public broadcast.

I though Corso was going to start crying when he apologized for cursing.  Funny.

I hate Pasch, always have, but Spielman is my favorite.  He and Collinsworth are the two color guys most likely to point out something I'm not catching.  I'm meh about Urban.

I kind of hate Collinsworth but actually really like him at the same time.  he does a great job of pointing out exactly why a play was successful from a technique or scheme point of view, & he does often say things that I wouldn't have known otherwise, so I appreciate that.  unfortunately, this involves him being a real negative nancy a lot - he spends about as much time pointing out who screwed up & who should be blamed for this or that as he does crediting players for doing good things.  maybe it's true, but it's still kind of depressing.

Yes, Ohio has won a few games in a row, and not last year! Michigan owns the series, big ten titles, total wins and wining percentage. He is just talking about part of the story!

I liked them today....I got a kick out of Speilman taking shots at the losing streak towards the end of the game.

I know some were mad by it, I thought it was a nice little touch to really get us thinking about the game next week.

Speilman has improved a lot over the years and even urban brought a little more to it today.

if anything you can learn something listening to those guys break down plays.

I got them #3 right behind Nessles/blackledge and even Mushmouth/Herbie keep me entertained.

Only announcers I don't like are Pam ward and that new gal who sounds just like Pam ward. I'm indifferent to the rest really. Musberger isn't what he used to be.

I really like the Nessler-Spielman-Meyer team.  Although I feel like Spielman sometimes subtly roots against Michigan, I do learn about the game by listening to him, and Meyer.

Agreed.  They have their little thesis they want to lay on you, and you're going to get it whether it is relevant to what is going on in the game or not.

Denard can't throw.  Denard does not run with passion.  Except that Denard threw well and ran with passion in the actual game.

about whether Devin Gardner should play, but to rant about it incessantly for weeks and weeks is nothing short of amazing. Knowing the game is not enough; a little gallantry, a pleasant voice, a sense of humor--all these are also pre-requisites. Announcers who continually second-guess the coaches and assume such an air of supierority, as if sitting there second-guessing weren't way harder than calling the game, really get my goat.

Meyer actually warmed to the task as the day went on; other than the fact that he is a celebrated coach, I have found myself wondering before today why the heck he was there.

Odd, I felt Spielman in particular really took away from my enjoyment of the game. My wife and I mentioned it several times throughout the broadcast.

It really seemed as though he went out of his way to emphasize that Michigan was ahead solely due to Nebraska's play, with heavy implication that our side had little to do with the outcome.

I felt that he took an awful lot away from Michigan's amazing game, and I'm sure I would feel a lot happier in my gut right now, if the announce crew had let me feel that Michigan throttled a top 20 team, rather than a top 20 team lost themselves a football game, and Michigan just sort of happened to be on the field, too.

I expect Spielman to hold love in his heart for the buckeyes, but he does have a job to do. It seems Herbstreit and Robert Smith have managed to let his feeling be known, without detracting from his work, Spielman could use a little of that.

They should hook him and Herbstreit together.  Spielman and Meyer are fine, but not doing Michigan games.  If they do the game next week, it will be the most biased braodcast of the season, maybe ever.

I like Musburger too.  He is old, and crazy over the top...but at least he is consistent, and amusing to listen to.  He is like Keith Jackson and is a legendary voice of college football at this point.

Musburgers "you are looking live" stchick goes back to his days on CCCBBSSSs... and I love the way he'll say "Denard....to the eenennnnnndszzzzzooonneee  TOUCHDOWN MICHIGAN!!!"
