BREAKING: #Alabama Co-OC Josh Gattis will become the new offensive coordinator at #Michigan, sources tell me & @ChrisVannini. This is a big addition for Jim Harbaugh and the Wolverines: https://t.co/Nxcf5X2EVn

I'm actually surprised Pep even got a ranking.
January 10th, 2019 at 6:47 PM ^
How hard is it to recruit kids to Bama?
January 10th, 2019 at 3:30 PM ^
He is a monster recruiter. The potential improvement over Pep in both play calling and recruiting is really exciting to think about.
January 10th, 2019 at 3:31 PM ^
If you don't believe this thread, check the other three threads. Sounds legit.
January 10th, 2019 at 3:31 PM ^
He was a great recruiter and WR coach at PSU before he went to Bama this year too. We saw the drop off in PSU's WRs without him. This could be awesome on multiple levels.
January 10th, 2019 at 3:56 PM ^
Bruce Feldman agrees.
January 10th, 2019 at 3:31 PM ^
Is this good?
January 10th, 2019 at 3:45 PM ^
Is This Confirmed???????????
UM release or internet feeding?
January 10th, 2019 at 3:31 PM ^
Does this mean Pep is gone or is this a co-OC position?
January 10th, 2019 at 3:34 PM ^
Gattis is an experienced Co-OC.
January 10th, 2019 at 3:45 PM ^
Yep. Not to freak people out, but he's never called his own plays.
January 10th, 2019 at 3:48 PM ^
This could mean McDaniels isn't getting hired. The last I heard was that Jim hoped to hire him as the WR coach, but I never saw anything definite.
Pep wasn't ever given the OC title, was he? If Gattis is named the OC, I don't see Pep getting elevated to co-OC and maybe Gattis wouldn't come here for that either. Pep could stay to be an overpaid QB coach. Maybe this helps push him to move on.

Hey Myles Hinton, are you sure?
January 10th, 2019 at 3:32 PM ^
can he coach dline? wait.... nm
January 10th, 2019 at 3:32 PM ^
wow this is really good
January 10th, 2019 at 3:32 PM ^
Legit home run hire.
January 10th, 2019 at 3:33 PM ^
so... is this good?
i still have nightmares from nussmeier...
January 10th, 2019 at 3:33 PM ^
So Day hires a RETREAD Dline coach as DC and Harbaugh hires a coveted OC from Bama for OC. Looks like Harbaugh is playing Chess and Day is playing Checkers.....
January 10th, 2019 at 4:12 PM ^
That's crazy. Michigan hiring Yurcich would have been just as big a deal here. Probably more, given Yurcich has a much longer track record of coordinating offense.
January 10th, 2019 at 3:33 PM ^
Can't wait for the, "Good shit Josh" .gif
January 10th, 2019 at 3:34 PM ^
As long as Pep is fucking gone. This gets me out of the BPONE mindset a bit.
January 10th, 2019 at 3:34 PM ^
I don’t know him. I hope he is the most awesomest.
January 10th, 2019 at 3:34 PM ^
Fanfreakingtastic! Excellent hire!
January 10th, 2019 at 4:00 PM ^
That is hilarious
January 10th, 2019 at 4:40 PM ^
It's the in-car air freshener that did it for me.
January 10th, 2019 at 3:36 PM ^
Wow. This could be huge. Guy can recruit too. Love the usage of 'offensive coordinator' in the tweet.
January 10th, 2019 at 3:37 PM ^
Checking the board before and take off and seeing this is the best possible thing I could’ve stumbled upon
January 10th, 2019 at 3:37 PM ^
Interesting for multiple reasons.
1) Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't recall anyone being called the actual OC around here in the last few years. It's always run game coordinator and pass game coordinator. Is this a change in the coaching hierarchy?
2) If he is OC, what does that make Pep
January 10th, 2019 at 3:39 PM ^
Pep go bye bye
January 10th, 2019 at 3:48 PM ^
Per reliable sources: Pep to Bismol.
January 10th, 2019 at 4:32 PM ^
Literally lmao!!!!!
January 10th, 2019 at 3:58 PM ^
Could Pep just not be QB coach and Assistant HC?
Not necessarily predicting or advocating for this, but stating a possibility.
Would it really be that bad if he were just working with the QB's? He seems to get high praise from them.
Just let someone else design the passing plays and call the plays and Pep can work with the QB's on the execution of plays that other people design and call.

Thank you to BeatOSU52's friend for emailing Harbaugh about Alabama's offense!
January 10th, 2019 at 3:38 PM ^
Penn State fan comment on Reddit when he got poached by Bama
"This is a huge huge loss for us. Bama you’re getting one of the best recruiters and WR coaches in the country."
This is incontrovertible evidence he is amazing.
Quick scan of Bama boards for comments on this guy, he seemed to have been overall well regarded, especially for recruiting.
January 10th, 2019 at 3:38 PM ^
Can't imagine he would have agreed to flip to UM without Harbaugh agreeing to give him the reins, or at least primary responsibility for the offense.
I'm excited!
January 10th, 2019 at 3:43 PM ^
He has never called plays or been the primary OC. He has been under Locksley, Morehead and others. Seems like a good get but by no means an experienced offensive wizard. Seems more like a recruiting guy.
January 10th, 2019 at 3:39 PM ^
Sounds like a promising start, though I know nothing about him and didn’t love the game plan Alabama had for Clemson. I just like that there’s going to be a defined OC. Hope this goes better than the last Alabama guy we hired as OC.
January 10th, 2019 at 3:39 PM ^
Things are changing.
January 10th, 2019 at 3:41 PM ^
Hopefully he works out as well as the last OC we got from 'Bama! /s
Sorry, I had to make the comment. I'm surprised no one mentioned this before me ...
January 10th, 2019 at 3:41 PM ^
Fingers crossed he's better than the last one (nuss)
January 10th, 2019 at 3:42 PM ^
Oops, I forgot about Nuss.
January 10th, 2019 at 3:41 PM ^
As long as he isn't the guy that called that awful fake FG I'm fine with this
January 10th, 2019 at 3:41 PM ^
Does he know he’s also coaching the DL and LBs?
January 10th, 2019 at 3:42 PM ^
This is good news and all, but remember how excited we all were about Nussmeier and how that worked out? I'm cautiously optimistic, but the emphasis is on cautiously.
January 10th, 2019 at 3:42 PM ^
Well think of it as hiring the PSU coach via Alabama.
January 10th, 2019 at 3:43 PM ^
People are so excited about this like Harbaugh still won’t be calling the plays lol
