Made me think This Week In Coaching Carosuel might be a nice compliment to TWIS the next few weeks. And if the roles were reversed we would have melted down just the same. Tim Beck would have had to have actually had success to be a fair comparison, but the meltdown at 11W if we found out Beck had interviewed before the MSU game would have been as bad as anything you guys said.

If Ash stays at OSU, then Michigan can take its sweet time with this hire, but if Ash leaves, then Michigan has to hire theirs before OSU gets its. The competition there for a single name or two is too predictable. And presumably time-sensitive.

For the record we don't want the big ten east to get better. It's already hard enough with OSU MSU and probably PSU over time. We do want the big ten west to get better but for some reason Minnesota and Illinois hired nobody

You're right about Illinois, but I think Minnesota made the right move in giving Claeys the job. Their athletic department is looking for a new AD and is still reeling from a scandal involving their last AD. No qualified coach would want to walk into that situation.

Ash would be like Durkin (taking a chance on a hot assistant in the hopes that he turns out to be the next Urban Meyer).  The Rut doesn't need that right now, and they can't afford to gamble and lose because they are losing money and subsidizing athletics heavily.  They need a steady hand to make slow inroads in in-state recruiting, which will eventually translate on the field.  Golden is a Jersey guy, he is a good recruiter, and his one flaw is that he's not a good gameday coach.  If it's Golden and a good OC, then I can see this working for them.
