Advice for tailgating

Submitted by MGoDillon on
Hopefully you guys can help me out! So over the past few years, I've enjoyed tailgating before the game a ton. While I LOVE going into the games, sometimes it sucks because you miss all of the other games during that time.. It also gets expensive buying tickets. So what I'd like to do is to be able to just tailgate all day, and watch the games on tv and not go into the games. I will get a generator and bring my tv, but I don't know the best way to get the games on. I have Dish Network, so I'm trying to use that, but I don't know the best and most affordable way to do this. I know that I can use a digital receiver, but that of course will only get me the local channel games. Also, I've seen the "tailg8rs" or whatever, but they're insanely expensive. Anybody with experience know what the most affordable option is? Should I just bite the bullet and buy the tailg8r? Thanks

You know, that's a pet peeve of mine, people who park their portable toilet across spaces like that. Absolutely irks me every time, especially when you have taken the time to peruse the lot for an acceptable place for a toilet. Very inconsiderate when people do that.

I don't think I could tailgate all day and not go into the game. A Michigan tailgate is my funnest day of the year and part of that fun is the anticipation to go into the stadium and hear the band, see the game and just feel all the positive energy with over 100k people that all share a common goal for a Saturday afternoon.

Yeah, I'm with you here. I guess watching the game might be more fun close to the Stadium than far away, but of course the area around the Stadium is pretty dead during the actual game because everybody is in the Stadium.

I guess it depends on the OP's time scope, here: Is he planning on skipping all of the games, or maybe just do this once?

I would hold out for a cheap at-the-gate ticket (and there are a few games where this will be the case) and go anyway. I totally understand wanting to watch the other games, so I would go right back to my rig and flip on the TV after the Michigan game is over.

Brats, wrap something in bacon, and barbeque sauce. Also: roast corn in the husk, and double foil, in the coals, for at least 45 minutes. It is impossible for any chef in the world to improve on the flavor of roasted salted sweet corn. It is ambrosia.

I didn't read the OP. But, as I am hanging out with a fellow MGoBlogger, drink a ton of beer, smoke a little pot, and everything will turn out OK.

The end. Love ya Mike.

It depends.

When you hear a roar you get excited, when it's silent you feel like 'shit'.

It's more about being with the 12 guys you lived with senior year. It is a lot of fun. And you don't have to wait for a porta John... And you can keep drinking or smoking, whatever your fancy.

To make the entire area non-smoking is ridiculous. When everyone is in stadium, one should be allowed to step into corner of veranda and light one up. If one wants to do a line of coke, should be able to slip into bathroom stall and paint it white. These things are allowed on the golf course and you still get the live action vibe from all those coming and going. When you pay this much for a ticket, certain things, as long as they aren't imposing on others, should be allowed. I can set down for three hours and be entrertained by the action on the field without a complement. Others have problems and I understand.

At a certain age one gets past the subjective shit and lets people be people as long as there is no infringement. This I get.

Your smoke blows over to us, so it does impose on others. I have an idea, though, You can build a little enclosed room with your own money and all the smokers can hang out there together if you really can't stand to go 4 hours without a smoke. As a non smoker, I'm paying for my ticket, too.

Depends on how far away you are. When we lived there, my wife and I would host some friends and family who live in Ann Arbor who would carpool and pay for a parking space next to ours. We'd tailgate for a couple of hours, then split--us to the game, them to a 10-minute ride home and the comfort of a living room. Good food and fun, the excitement of a tailgate near the stadium, a few bucks for parking, and your own home to rest in. It was a blast.

I've seen setups where people bring their own satellites on a home built rig, put the dish in the direction it needs, and you're in business

...if you want to go cheap, bring your TV and satellite receiver from home, get an inexpensive portable dish on a tripod (check out Amazon) and a 1000W Honda generator. To be nice to your neighbors, if you can go fancier consider bringing a pre-charged Goal Zero power center and only using the generator to charge it when you need to.

When my son visited me in Mexico he took me to this electronics place and purchased for me what I believe is called a booster. i asked him what we were doing when all of a sudden my 35 second delay on the net went down to instant. He told me I was just borrowing the signal of the closest subscriber to the same ISP. I imagine the same theory would work for t.v. signals as well.

Find a Realtor. Buy a house across the street from the Big House. Tailgate in the front yard. Have a TV on the front porch. Watch all games. Problem solved.
