Adidas Big East uni watch, ugghh!!

Submitted by myrtlebeachmai… on
Anyone watching the BE tourney tonight? God, are these Adidas unis ugly! Cincy earlier wore what looked like Mossy Oak hunting camos with sleeves and legs cut off, and day-glow hunting orange numbers. Notre Dame looks like their guys fell in a vat at the Axis Chemical plant with Jack Napier. Thank God, DB had one ounce of common sense to turn this nonsense down. I'm beginning to think Adidas is not where we want to be much longer...

...that Adidas shit actually looks worse than when you occasionally see one of those stories where someone gets a fancy pants European designer to propose the unifrom of the future and he presents unitards or fur collars or some ridiculous shit like that.

Edit:  On second tought, a fur collar (if it was 100 % real wolverine fur) might be kind of a cool touch for, like, a November snow bowl-style game.

When has this ever actually happened?

uniforms?  Football is one thing, because of our tradition there, but is what clothing we wear really a big deal?

I care about how our boys play and the result of the game.   If we beat Indiana in the NC, I don't care if we are wearing pink with red tutu's on.  It's just a piece of clothing to advertise a brand people.

Let's care more about the kids committed to Michigan than the jerseys they are forced to wear.

/end rant

"...is what clothing we wear really a big deal?"

No, it isn't a big deal.  At least it shouldn't be.  Nobody really cares which is exactly why they wear uniforms.  And that is exactly why uniforms should be relatively standard looking and unchanging from year to year (let alone game to game).

Yet, some asshole designers & marketing experts can't resist stirring the pot. All these uniformz shenanigens amount to one of the biggest trolling operations of all time and it needs to stop so that we can get back to not caring about this stupid non-issue.

If it is a "stupid non-issue" in the first place, then why do you care about it so much?  And if you are used to not caring about the uniforms, then why do the changes rile you?

How ugly can these uniformz get? I didn't mind Oregon doing it because that's their thing. I didn't mind Maryland doing it because they had some historical reasons. I didn't mind the south Carolina camp because it was original. I didn't mind staee doing it because they don't matter anyway, but what the hell is going on with every school wearing a different jersey every game?

Here's what i think is happening with these shenanigans. Remember back in the 80's when Star Wars toys started delving into the most obscure characters? Same thing. They've run out of real ideas-- just like Hasbro ran out of real characters with spoken lines. That, or they pulled a bunch of old crap from the early 90's --originally destined for the now-defunct Deutsche Blumensteckenmeisterschaft-- out of a box and decided to iron on new team names. Or both. Whatever the case, it won't be long before we see hypercolor unis. Mark it.

old ideas.  Some people forget but there was a phase in the 90's when the uni's got pretty stupid, not this god awful stupid but for the time they were stupid.

1996 Kentucky wore these "acid wash" denim things.  They also had shorts with blue that was supposed to look like a wild cat shredded the shorts sometime around then.

I believe Syracuse has destroyed all evidence of the body suit uniforms they wore for a couple game in the Rony Seikely days.

....is up after 2016-17.  With DB steering the ship, it's going to come down to money and probably nothing else.  If Nike offers a better deal, we'll switch back.  If they don't, we'll stay with Adidas.

Whining about it will change nothing.

I actually did catch part of the Rutgers-ND game last night, and it was difficult to watch A) Rutgers play basketball, and B) the shade of green Adidas chose for Notre Dame's socks and shoes. It harkened back to a time when radium was used in self-luminous paints basically, it was that green. The players that had kneepads on basically looked like glow sticks in motion. It was odd, to say the least.

These are more, "Oops, I stepped in mint chocolate chip ice cream" vs the toxic green I saw last night...  Maybe the "sports" setting on the TV has the contrast too high?!?!?  It's night and day, glad I'm not the only one...

EDIT:  This pic's better, and BONUS - alt shorts for "dark unis"...
