Academic Ineligibility Notice?

Submitted by michWolves2580 on

I noticed that ESPN has begun reporting which players will be academically ineligible for many teams but Michigan has no reports yet. I know the coaching staff said they dont anticipate any problems but does anyone know when for sure they are released?

On the other hand, I still have 2 grades outstanding and my last exam was the 20th.  A class in which I took an exam on the 13th has not posted the grades yet.  I've had professors not post grades until January 1 or so.  It's definitely feasible for someone to make the trip thinking they're good to go and find out later they're not.

I teach college, not at a top 50 contender but an okay NCAA program.

I have to do student progress reports on team members every two weeks in season, and middle and end of semester for out of season.

I have never been pressured or even asked to speed up grading on athletes. Heck, the admin doesn't really pressure me for grades at all, other than requesting that they be in by the first if I can.

Grades are due 72 hours after the completion of th e final. Then it's up to wolverine access and the registrar to log and post them. Any hold up is likely in the registrar's office or b/c the scantron form was improperly filled out (most common issue is that Prof forgot to sign the grade sheet).

As nothing has been officially disclosed, I'd rather not give specifics but Obi has not yet made it down to Florida. Apparently, he is still hoping for this to change but it doesn't look good. Though his on-field role has dimished, he is a senior and it would have been nice for him and his family to finish his career with a bowl game.

I can't tell you definitely, but if other schools are just starting to release ineligibility information, we will be about a week behind. Some finals at Michigan were as late as Dec 23, about a week later than other schools.

Unfortunately while I was at Michigan I was ruled academically ineligible (I know I'm a dumbazz) to participate in a season ending national championship event and the school was aware of it before I even was.  The coach called me and let me know which turned out to be a complete surprise to me.

They obviously have ways to expedite receiving your grades rather than waiting for it to be posted to your official transript.
