Per 97.1 The Fan Columbus Ohio Former Georgia Backup QB Justin Fields will Transfer To Ohio State

They believe that Fields will petition for immediate eligibility and expect it will be granted by NCAA. This also should mean that Haskins will be declaring for the NFL draft.

He was never threatened. A fan (and fellow student) said “Put the n*gger in.”

While the language is offensive and disgusting, there was no threat made. And if it was indeed offensive enough to Fields for him to no longer feel safe at the school, it’s curious that his family would allow his younger sister to attend the school next year on a softball scholarship. It’s a BIG stretch to try and avoid sitting out a year for a player frustrated with his lack of playing time.

I don’t see how this in any way should point to immediate eligibility. If it does, I’m sure there are hundreds of African-American student-athletes who can make this same claim. There are some shitty people in this country, and I’m sure plenty of these student athletes have had racial slurs directed at them. If that’s all it takes to get immediate eligibility at another school, you might as well remove all transfer restrictions.

The reason he will be granted immediate eligibility is because it was said by another student who was subsequently kicked off the baseball but not kicked out of school. Fields can easily claim that the school did not do enough and he didn't feel safe and/or it impacted his well being. Everyone knows it's about playing time, but the NCAA can't come out and say he's lying and he should have to stay at a school where he could have to attend classes with the same racist student or friends of the student.

Did Fields even hear the racial slur?   Seems like he is transferring because he can't beat out Jake Fromm.  It's weird that Michigan's transfer QB has to go through 1,000 hurdles to get eligibility and OSU's doesn't.  I guarantee that every player of color has heard a racial slur on campus no matter what school they go to.  It's not a good thing, but it's a stretch, in Field's specific case, for immediate eligibility.

I hope Fields' presence sows discord in the QB room at OSU.

If a guy feels that comfortable to say that around a bunch of other people in a crowded stadium, that definitely speaks to the atmosphere around the university. Let’s take it outside of football...if a boss at a company said  “hey that n-word is doing a good job”, would you be upset if the black employee decided to leave and find a better workplace environment? Similar situation here, no one knows how much that rattled the kid and he really might just need a fresh start at a new place.

It doesn’t help that they hired Mike Yurcich, the former Ok. St. O-Cord. Cause ya know....their offense typically sucks.

With Fields joining the roster, he makes 46 freshmen on the squad. That’s a very young and talented team. (Not including the 15 commits from this year).

His basis for immediate eligibility is not legit but we were all on board when Shea wanted it...I'm tried and true maize and blue but this is a little arrogant and self righteous of us to act like the kid doesn't have a legit case or assume he doesn't. Is it because it's O State or just in general. If he chose us would be feeling the same way?

the one thing that nobody has said and to me what is TRULY worrisome is what Quincy Avery said. For all who don't know who Quincy is, he is Shea's personal, Dwayne Haskins, Justin Fields among MANY others private and personal QB coach. He is on record saying that if he had a son who is QB there is only one coach he would want them to play for...Ryan Day.  THAT has potential to have a longer lasting effect on us than one guy for a couple of years.

Tate has implied that the playcalling book is exceptionally hard giving days style of offense. With the new offensive coordinator coming in I assume there will be minor tweaks. Which in turn could level the playing field in Fields advantage. (They both would have to adjust to a new passing coordinator)

I doubt Martel transfers. He may The following season. Especially if Baldwin develops. Unfortunately for Tate, he was a Meyer recruit. And day system of offense is not QB run centric

Well this is just completely inaccurate...

Assuming Haskins leaves and Fields has to sit out, they have Martell, Chugunov, Baldwin, and incoming Theo Day.

So that’s 3 four star QBs and a grad transfer from West Virginia. WITHOUT their starting QB and an incoming Justin Fields.

This was so confusing because for a moment it was like, "oh yeah, OSU took a Sparty QB commit."  Then it was wait a minute, that was Dwan Mathis.  Then that jumbled with the fact that Mathis committed to Georgia, spurning OSU on signing day.  But that was this year, can't be on the roster.  Then I thought about Day again and saw your comment and put the pills down.

Really not sure what you’re talking about. Haskins was an Ohio State recruit through and through. Day developed him. He was brought in “the game” as a freshman and lead the buckeyes to a come back win from behind.

Haskins even credits Day for His developement. And you can see that in this past seasons numbers

I think a better question is, when is Harbaugh going to develop a quarterback he recruited?

his last QB (O’Korn) was a transfer and Shea is one too. It’s year 4. Where’s “his” QB?

Harbaugh can clearly take chickenshit and turn it into chicken salad.

Thats what i'm so confused about.  Everyone thinks he's going to be granted a waiver but based on what?  That after a fan and student that yelled a racial slur about him, the school took immediate action and kicked that kid out of school?  And then his sister subsequently enrolled at the same school?  I would have to imagine the request for a waiver is something different than that (maybe Smart promising him the starting job?) but everyone is being so coy about it

Of course he is going to OSU and of course he will be declare immediately eligible, not that he has any actual case for playing immediately (as Shea clearly did), but such is the luck of the Buckeyes.

Field’s hasn’t played a meaningful snap in college football and has been beaten out by a lesser quality recruit. I don’t doubt that something happened causing Field’s to want to transfer but he also saw the writing on the wall with playing time. I would be shocked if Field’s is anywhere close to a QB who set multiple OSU and Big Ten records this year. I look at this news about Field’s as good news because it most likely means Haskins is gone. Quit actually Inv like Field’s is the greatest thing ever becaus it has no basis.........at least yet.

Actually the Meyer > Day is not actually bad logic.  Statistically speaking, Day will almost undoubtedly not win as much as Meyer has. I believe what you are getting at is this does not mean Day will be bad either, but he more likely than not will not be as successful as Meyer.
