7-5

Submitted by tdeshetler on

...isn't that what we all agreed to in the beginning of the year? That was going to be the bench mark for this team, knowing the youth and inexperience on the defense side of the ball.  Now, will a little adversity, so many of you feel compelled to jump off the wagon publicly on this board.

You don't think the coaches are doing everything to get this team ready to play?  Try coaching...seriously, there are youth teams everywhere that need coaches.  Try it, come back and tell me you don’t have a new appreciation for what these guys do.

Damn, I am tired of the mindless morons calling for RichRod's job.  At the first sign of adversity, your character shines through.  I for one don't want you on my team.  Find someone else to support.

With all due respect I didn't just create a new thread saying the same thing as atleast five previous threads.  There is even another thread that says 7-5 in the title.  I have stopped expecting quality posts after a loss anyway though.

You brought so much more to it than the post 5 down saying the same nonsensical thing. Predictions may be a rational assessment of where we are, but not a rational assessment of where we should be.

<br>And lots of people who picked 8-4, 7-5, probably also picked us to win today in the predictions thread. So apparently things change.

Yeah 7-5 is better, but it is still mediocre.  I genuinely like RR (as both a coach and a person), and I like the explosive plays from the offense, but they are still so far away.  I am a patient man, but this is starting to get tough to watch..

I want to like RR too, but I got really god damn frustrated when he wouldn't answer what his favorite restaurant  in Ann Arbor was.  That was bullshit.  Anyone else notice that bad call?  We can't have that kind of soft mentality in our program.  Man up.

Yeah we lost to two very good teams. Could we have played better? Sure. But I would love to know what the RR haters think will happen when we have more attrition, lower APR and lose Molk, Martin & Van Bergen if they fire RR. What a great idea - change coaches before he gets one of his recruiting classes as upperclassman, after an apocalypse in the secondary that was hardly his fault - Michigan as we know it will be in way more trouble without him than with him at this point. Are we as good as we should be? No. But give these kids a chance. We can still get to 8-4 and maybe get to 9 with a bowl win. The bandwagon jumpers on this board are a disgrace to this fan base. Go cheer for the Spartans.

7-5, and I would be even more ecstatic with 8-4.  The teams that beat us in the BIg Ten should but I feel that if we play a perfect game we maybe able to beat one of them.

PSU, Purdue, and Illinois who is looking decent or Wisconsin gets us to 8-4.

This team needs the bye week in a big way.  A lot of these young kids haven't seen constant pressure like this...ever.  I think that's a big part of DRob's recent problems.  He's young and the weight of carrying the team is starting to wear on him.

The bye week will bring back a fresh and rested team that looks more like the one that went 5-0.

I was counting on my fingers what the next 5 games were, and potential wins. Agree totally that Illinois is looking better, but I am still counting them as a win. What is the biggest difference in the Illinois offense versus the Iowa and MSU offense? Upperclassmen at QB. On defense they don't measure up to either Iowa or MSU. I'd LOVE 8-4 with 9 wins including a bowl game.

I thought we would go 10-2.  I still think we can got to 9-3.  I still like this team.  we knew the O would have slow down a bit.  And we knew the D would give up points.  I had no idea that special teams would matter so much.  I am still optomistic.  The loss was tough, but I think we are getting better except for special teams.

I could not leave when we were down in the fourth. Even though i knew I should have gotten a head start for the door. I just can't give up on this team. Not now, not never!

Good for you man. I get tired of these fans who want to cheer when its good and boo when its bad. 5-0 everything is awesome. 5-2 after losing to arguably 2 of the 3 best teams in the conf and its fire RR! I mean seriously. The team is improving albeit slower than we'd like.

I agree. I am sick of people blaming the coaches.  What did the coaches ahve to do with Kovacs' dropped pick 6? Or the 3 interceptions? Or the fumble? Or the missed assignments? Give the coaches some time to get some players and give the players some time to learn and mature.

Yes 7-5 is what I was sort of expecting.  I am still hoping for 7-5 but I wonder where the wins will come.   PSU, Purdue, Illinois are possible.  Won't beat Wiscy or OSU, IMO.

What is upsetting is that the defense is much worse than I expected.   I wasn't expecting 1997 again,  I understood the secondary was inexperienced, but geez louise, we can't hold anyone under 30.

but how is 7-5 without beating a single good team considered progress?  7-5 isnt our main objective.  13-0 is.  eventually you have to start beating the better teams.  we are on year 3 now, and we still have a hard time achieving 4 wins in the big ten.  iowa is a good team.  but its not a world beater.  think about it.  we barely beat umass, indiana, nd.  one is a division 1aa school.  the other 2 might not go 500 this year.  indiana might finish last in the big ten.  our other 2 wins were against a 1 - 5 bowling green team, and a 500 big east squad.   we have wisco and osu left on our schedule.  we have to beat atleast one of them (and i hope its osu) for us to say we have progress.   not losing to a bad team (toledo, purdue, illinois) is not progress. that is expected when you're michigan.  even when you are rebuilding.

so lets beat someone descent before we say that there is progress.  a lot of yards on offense do not translate into wins.  we have to play as a complete team in order to play with the big boys.  and we have yet to do that.

1 or 2 plays the last two weeks and who knows how things would shape up.  Just off the top for yesterday's games:

1. Lewan penalty on 2nd drive completely kills offensive momentum.  Could have gone up 2 scores there.

2. Kovac dropping the pick...don't think he would have scored but we would have gotten the ball back in very good field position

3. 2 kicks going OOB

4. V. Smit just flat out dropping the ball after being barely touched

5. Denard with yet another shitty pick deep when he had an open outlet man short

These are the signs of youth....another year under their belt and we could be incredibly strong Offensively.  Defense.....we're fucked there for at least another 2 years unfortunately.
