I still don't understand how Michigan's new D fits in because you say, "Having said all that, the thing many are trying to do now is to have a 3-4, with a olb that's so strong you can put him in at a 7 shade on the te, and put his hand in the ground and play him like a 4-3 end" But in our system, the new DE/OLB lines up on the weak side. The new OLB/SS hybrid will line up on the strong side. Am I wrong in my assumption that the base defense has both the Spinner and the OLB/SS hybrid? Or is the OLB/SS hybrid brought in as a situational sub? Like when we want a fast cover guy lined up over the TE, or when there's no TE at all against a spread?

about the spinner being on the weakside. Everything i have seen from the spring, suggests that Brown when playing that olb hybrid that people talk about is a weakside olb, and the spinner is that De/olb hybrid played by Heron, is a strong side player (spinner, stud, sam) again, we dont call them hybrids, they are what they are, olb, that rush the passer, and sometimes drop into coverage...

if there is no te in the game, i can really see the faster of the two being lined up to the most recievers side... in order to get a better cover guy over there, then your spinner can be a rush end type from the least reciever side. That could be what is happening when people are saying that brown is linning up to the strength, and the de/olb to the weakside.. but again, maybe Rob wants to have a stronger will, and a faster stud, that is unheard of...

Unless I misread, Brian's article says that the Spinner is lining up on the weakside. I can't find a link, but I'm pretty sure I read somewhere that Brown is playing SOLB. That makes more sense if like you suggest, there is no TE and the strong side is being considered the side with more WR's. How is the D-Line lining up? I think I read that Graham, Martin, and Van Bergen are starting together with a spinner like Marrell/Herron? Does that make Van Bergen sort of a hybrid DE/DT? For example, I'm abbreviating names so the players all appear side-by-side. BG (DE) MM (NT) RVB (DT/DE) ME (Spin/DE/OLB)

I can tell you're a good coach, because I actually understood what this meant in the conclusion: "3. the 3-4 looks like a 4-3 when there is a single te in the game, as the stud (strong olb) will come down and play a nine, and it will look like a 50 against a double tight." If I read that before...All mimsy were the borogoves, And the mome raths outgrabe
