2nd Best Fight Song?

Submitted by AMazinBlue on
Of course there is no better fight song than The Victors, but is there one that is at least a catchy tune? I don't like it, but the ND fight song at least flows kinda like the Victors and USC's isn't too bad. Hail To The Redskins is catchy too. Oklahoma's is purely obnoxious. Any thoughts?

Army and Navy both have great ones. Army's for some reason is used by a few other schools too I think. I actually have to say I kind of like Rocky Top, although it seems to be generally hated by anyone not from Tennessee.

I have a deep personal love for Idaho's fight song, just because of the bizarre inclusion of the French national anthem. My alma mater Bowling Green actually has an awesome fight song, but they never play it in favor of the "Ay Ziggy Zoomba" chant. Clemson's fight song has always seemed pretty spiffy to me as well.

I actually do like Rocky Top as well, possibly because my middle school band played it in 7th grade. Also I'm incredibly partial to Hail to the Redskins, as it's actually played by a marching band, I think the only one still left in the NFL. I heard the Lions' "fight song" at the Skins-Lions game this year and laughed really really hard. Anyone else find that song to be hilarious?

While on the Redskins topic... Not only are the nickname and logo of the 'Skins deemed to be offensive, the original lyrics of Hail to the Redskins, as written in 1938, were terrifically racist. Hail to the Redskins! Hail Victory! Braves on the Warpath! Fight for old Dixie! Run or pass and score -- we want a lot more! Scalp 'em, swamp 'em -- We will take 'em big score Read 'em, weep 'em, touchdown - we want heap more Fight on, Fight on -- 'Till you have won Sons of Wash-ing-ton. Rah!, Rah!, Rah!

Any school whose song is constant repetition of a few bars cannot even be considered. This immediately takes that crappy USC thing right out. Its the same thing over and over and frickin over. Kill me. Oklahoma SAME damn thing. Even little brothers song is actually a song. Florida's is not bad, but I don't think it has any words and sounds suspiciously like Northwesterns. If the Ohio State song belonged to any other school in the country, I would give props to it.

I do dislike them very much. But objectively speaking, I also think their crappy little ditty was ripped off of Yale's fight song which was written by Cole Porter. I'll try to find a link to play.

Ohio State's "Across the Field" was the tune of my high school's fight song. I cry every time I think of the times I actually sang words to it in high school.

My high school had the same fight song as Ohio State, and as a football player I would hear that song all the time, and loved it. Now when I watch us play OSU I get excited when their fight so starts playing and then I have to tell myself that it's bad now. It's difficult to un-train that response.

Oklahoma has the most annoying fight song in the country. I remember intently watching RR's WVU team play OU in a BCS bowl last year and all I wanted to do was see what product we were getting, but no, had to shut it off because OU's band was beyond annoying. Same fucking song after every play, even when WVU scored. But if I had to pick a song besides The Victors, I'd choose Florida States seminole chant. I have no idea why. Maybe because we played it in Juniors when we scored a goal.

...the touchdown anthem LSU plays after each touchdown where they spell out T-I-G-E-R-S. Or when LSU plays Chinese Bandits when their defense holds to fourth down? Or, when LSU plays "Neck"? That is awesome. I like LSU's band quite a bit. They represented well when I saw them get destroyed by Florida this year.

Im a little partial to New Mexico State's fight song. Yes they have a fight song. Yes there is a college in New Mexico besides UNM. Yes we use American money.

NM State is the one that talks about buying kegs right? Did they end up having to change the lyrics to that one recently? If so, that's a pity. St. Olaf is another small school with a great fight song.

Although its not their official fight song, I kinda dig it when Tennessee's band does "Rocky Top." The FSU "War Chant" is pretty cool. Other than that, I'd say USC's fight song is my second favorite.

My vote would go to the underrated Gopher Rouser. Those of you of a more advanced age would remember it as the theme music to ABC's old Prudential College Scoreboard.

As my obnoxious Domer friends constantly remind me, Notre Dame does not have a fight song, they have a "victory march." Yet another reason to dislike them. Seriously, is everything they say and do designed to annoy the rest of the world? But the song itself ain't bad, I suppose.

OK. I do like Wisconsin's, but only to the cheese commercial's lyrics. I think Tennessee's Rocky Top is awesome(I played it in 7th grade, too). They get my number #2 vote. I hate Notre Dame's song, it was played by my high school's biggest rival (Excuse me while I go kick the dog). But since we are getting off subject a tad by including non-fight songs....I want to vote for Temptation. I play that song about 50 times a week during football season!

Michigan and Notre Dame are far and away #1 and #2 in fight songs (or victory marches if you will LOL). I also really enjoy Nebraska, Oklahoma (repetitive as it may be), Tennessee, Penn State, Texas, and yes...Ohio State's fight song as well. (kill me). As far as my favorite repetitive things that bands play after first downs and the such, I do enjoy USC, Florida State's chop, W/e it is that Penn State plays after 1st downs, and also Illinois's war chant. All in all, the bands are actually one of my favorite features of college gamedays. they add so much to the atmosphere and it's what sets college football apart from pro, IMO.

It's not actually a fight song, but I kinda dig it when Wisconsin plays "Hot Time in the Town Tonight" after they score a touchdown.

Notre Dame is very good, as are OSU and Wisconsin. I personally love "Rocky Top" and would put it as my clear #2, though I understand how other people would disagree. "Hail Purdue" is also underrated, in my opinion. However, I must take issue with USC being included. The thing is that they have two songs: "Tribute to Troy", and "Fight On". "Fight On" is the quicker one they play after TDs. This is an acceptable answer, though I personally hate the song. "Tribute to Troy" is the slow one that they play after every goddamned play. It's grating and terrible and haunts my nightmares. The only worse song in all of college football and probably the history of the world is "Boomer Sooner" (by the way, if you mentioned this as a good song, you are probably deaf or clinically insane.)
