247 has updated rankings

Submitted by ldevon1 on

A few Michigan commits got bumps (up) and some targets got positive bumps also.

Of note: Charbonnet, Ojabo, and Hinton moved up.

Charbonnet will play from the get-go.  We haven't had a back as good as him since Hart.  Him and Gray will provide a very nice thunder and lightning combo for 3-4 years.

Haha. I like it when UM pulls in high ranked recruits just as much as the next person but this is so true. Re rankings and kids dropping in rankings because “they didn’t camp”. It is just a hilarious waste of time to get worked up over this stuff.

This is exciting stuff.

Look, the complaints a couple of months ago had legit grounds--Michigan didn't have a lot of punch in the class. But now there are key commits rolling in, and the guys in the fold look like terrific players in key spots.

Win big this fall and things appear to be on a great track, still. If last year's on-field struggles are just a blip, the recruiting setback will be, too.

My one complaint is that it seems we didn't really capitalize on a strong in-state class that features 2 big time prospects at a position that has seemingly been a sore spot for god knows how long.  Other than that though, this seems like a class similar to 2016-2017 with a few big time prospects, some big risers, and plenty of chances for late cycle splashes.

According to MgoFish, the first numbers below were the last composite ratings as of the end of our commit spree. The second numbers are today.

Hinton: 16 -> 22

Herron: 84 -> 86

Smith: 123 -> 119

Rumler: 129 -> 126

Charbonet: 306 -> 186

Gray: 248 -> 245

McNamara: 257 -> 267

Jones: 290 -> 297

Ojabo: 488 -> 318

Barnhart: 379 -> 390

Thomas: 390 -> 401

Turner: 440 -> 443

Q. Johnson: 470 -> 478

Carpenter: 490 -> 509

All: 504 -> 510

Stewart: 593 -> 624

Newburg: 643 -> 688

Velazquez: 968 -> 933

G. Johnson: 953 -> 958

It appears that most slid a couple spots because they weren't re-evaluated while a few risers passed them. Charbonet and Ojabo were given substantial bumps. Velazquez got a little boost too perhaps because ESPN gave him a grade.

Still very confused by McNamara's rating. Yes, his upside is limited due to his height and apparent lack of arm strength, but I don't see how he could get moved down after how he's performed recently. He's performed better than a lot of QBs in front of him and I just don't see how that shouldn't be weighed more than apparent upside

Hinton (36), Moved down 10 spots

Charbonnet (40), Moved up 179 spots!

Gray (86), Moved up 9 spots.

Herron (146), Moved down 6 spots.

Rumler (154), Moved up 2 spots.

Ojabo (193), Moved up 344 spots!

Smith (225), Moved down 1 spot

Barnhart (237) Moved down 2 spots

So refreshing seeing TWO Michigan RBs in the Top100. Were bound to hit big on at least one of them. Hopefully we can hold on to both.

Interesting how former Michigan target Noah Cain was at one point the Top RB in the 2019 class yet now he's all the way down at 242. Dude must've got complacent at the top while all the other backs behind him were hungry

There were a whole lot of people bitching up a storm as of about 2 or 3 weeks ago. It’s crazy what waiting until the end of the recruiting cycle will do to the sky is falling crowd.

This is exactly why you don't complain about Summer commits prior to rankings updates. This is not to say that we are now recruiting at Ohio St. or Alabama levels, but if you include the targets we are after, this looks a LOT like the 2016 class.

I guess this should be taken with a grain of salt since I think it's dependent on various fanbases inclination to vote and enthusiasm for online polls (looking at you Nebraska), but it is fascinating that Michigan has San Francisco, NYC, and DC (plus the Boston suburbs)

I think this map also tells us that America's Bandwagon Team is OSU. So many random, rural counties with the block O. I imagine they're also big Yankees, Man U, and Dallas Cowboys fans. Maybe some Duke basketball too

Fan 1:  You like 247?

Fan 2:  It depends.

Fan 1:  On what?

Fan 2:  If they move a player I like up.

Fan 1:  Me too! I think all those kind of places are great when they move a player from my team up.

Fan 2:  Word!

Fan 1:  I really didn't like them when they moved that great player I think is great down. He got moved down even more at Rivals. I didn't like both of them then. They both weren't good sources then.

Fan 2:  Hey, I know. That player is a shoo-in for a Heisman!
