2/19 Bracketology: 11 seed in First Four (CBS), 10 seed (ESPN)

Submitted by Wolverine Devotee on

Jerry Palm has Michigan as a co-11 seed in the Midwest.

They'd face 11 George Washington in the First Four in Dayton. The winner gets fed to 6 Arizona.

ESPN's bracket boy has Michigan receiving the first of the last four byes and as a 10 seed in the West, playing 7 Florida. I actually like that matchup.

Don't like the prospects of playing UNC in Raleigh in the next round, though.

So much for safely in the field barring a collapse.  We need 3 more wins to feel safe.  Either 2 in the regular season plus one in the btt or 1 in the regular season (but it would have to be northwestern, can't have any bad losses) and 2 in the btt.

The final four games and the big ten tournament will change a lot of things.

Best scenario: We win the big ten tournament and get a 5/6/7 seed.

Worst scenario: Don't make the NCAA tournament

Gotta split the final two regular season games. However, we've won just once at the stupid Kohl Center in the 21st century so I don't know.

I think Iowa is a more winnable game. They haven't been playing well lately and we did OK against them on the road. The slow start killed us.

With the senior day crowd and the hopefully a hype atmosphere, I think that's the one we win to get to 2-2 in this final stretch.

All of that is likely useless if we lose to a tomato can in the B1G Tournament, though.

we wont beat MD or Wisc on the road..we are a very bad road team...unless we beat Iowa were out...So were looking at must wins against NW and Iowa and Iowa will be probably playing for a BIG Title against us so theres that...Man how this season has detoriated...This team has been hard to watch all season..Lost faith in them

They need 2 wins in the next 4 games to be safe unless they can nab 2 in the BTT, which is possible but unlikely.  Wiscy feels like the best option for the other win after NW, but who knows.  It will be essential that they at least look competent against MD and Iowa, as that has been their problem against the better teams on the schedule.

At Illinois as the "best road win" --- not the best.  Ohio State would have really helped.

Other bubble-ish teams: GW won at VCU, VCU won at St. Joseph's, Cincinnati won at UConn, Pittsburgh won at Florida State, Butler won at Seton Hall, Seton Hall won at Providence, LSU won at Alabama, Alabama won at Florida, Clemson won at Syracuse (x Boeheim), TT won at Baylor ................. you get the idea.  Nothing spectacular but they're all better than Illinois.

Win at Wisconsin/Maryland may be necessary to fill a weak spot on the resume.

FWIW, you're better off using the Bracket Matrix as opposed to one person's take (especially somebody as historically inaccurate as Lunardi). Bracket Matrix has us a 9 seed right now with the majority of brackets having us in the 8/9 game. The teams below us include: Pitt, VCU, Oregon State, Texas Tech, Florida State, and Cincinnati who have far worse resumes.

Is it possible that this team misses the tournament? Sure.

At 18-8 (discounting the NMU win), they'd essentially have to lose out, though. If they beat NW and lose the final 3 plus their BTT opener, they'd be 19-12 with an average RPI and no bad losses. That could potentially put them out depending on how other bubble teams do. A split in the regular season and 1-1 in the B1G Tournament makes them 21-11. That'll get them in.

a 20-win Michigan team with some quality wins and no bad losses is almost certainly a tournament team.

The B1G tournament probably decides whether you move up or down at the last minute in UMs seeding, bu even with a loss against say, Nebraska, I don't see you guys falling out.

Have you seen this team play at all? I don't like the prospects of playing anyone right now. I'll root like hell for them no matter who they play, I just have a bad feeling it won't end well.
