2020 OG Justin Rogers changing his tune, developing bond with Warinner

Submitted by Wolverine Devotee on

Not that long ago the #1 player in MI in 2020, 5 star OG Justin Rogers from Oak Park said he was going to be making a decision soon with the biggest aspect being "feeding his family".

Well, he has changed his tune considerably. And Ed Warinner is helping out big time.

Rogers knows that Warinner is a good coach — he’s done his homework there. As he says, “He’s a great coach — he can get people to the next level.”

But it’s also that he doesn’t feel pressured into anything with him. There isn’t an urgency to get him to make a decision or even come to campus. It’s becoming more of a fruitful relationship between the two that goes beyond just: Come to Michigan.

“Have fun with the process,” Rogers says of Warinner’s message to him. “No ‘come up and visit.’ Anything I need help with, he’s like, ‘I’m a phone call away. Just reach out and talk to me.’”

“The schools that are looking at me – I wanna say Georgia, Clemson, Alabama, USC, Tennessee, Michigan, Ohio State, Penn State – I could keep going,” Rogers said. “I just feel like I’m gonna take my time with it, for real. Ain’t no rush. I’m just gonna wait until the last minute to make a decision.”

I do not want this kind of activity in the Michigan football program. Sounds extremely suspicious from a kid who said he's looking to feed his family.

These kids get money on top of the scholarship. I’m not sure most here really know how it works. Said kid gets $600 a month as part of his scholarship, but after his freshman year his stipend can go up to say $1500 a month if he moves off campus. 4 players in a nice house is $6000 and the rent is $2000. Do the math.

im telling u it’s not as bad as people think it is in terms of money. These kids gets lots of expensive perks that the public does not know.

Wow, I hope he doesn’t read MGoBlog. What if he means he wants to go to a school that can get him to the next level, thus large paychecks and feeding his family. Then again you guys are persuasive. If we have learned anything this offseason it’s that rules only apply for Ole Miss and nobody else... send money now.

This is simply really good news all the sarcasm and bs aside.

Regardless if we get him or not it shows Warriner has a nice touch with the kids and an ability at building trust.   Justin had a sour taste for UofM so this was not an easy approach shot.   Sounds like we are on the green.   Not putting for dough.

Improved line play and a Big Ten Championship sure would help as well.

Does anyone else get the feeling that Karlaftis will start to really open up his recruitment with Purdue starting 0-2 and losing to a MAC team?

There isn’t a determining factor as of current that Rogers is looking for, but one thing is absolutely key to him: academics. He’s confident that, wherever he goes, he’ll be a factor on the football field. So, he’s adamant about finding a place that allows him to pursue paths outside of football.

So, he'll ultimately be signing with Alabama?
