2020 OG Justin Rogers changing his tune, developing bond with Warinner
Not that long ago the #1 player in MI in 2020, 5 star OG Justin Rogers from Oak Park said he was going to be making a decision soon with the biggest aspect being "feeding his family".
Well, he has changed his tune considerably. And Ed Warinner is helping out big time.
Rogers knows that Warinner is a good coach — he’s done his homework there. As he says, “He’s a great coach — he can get people to the next level.”
But it’s also that he doesn’t feel pressured into anything with him. There isn’t an urgency to get him to make a decision or even come to campus. It’s becoming more of a fruitful relationship between the two that goes beyond just: Come to Michigan.
“Have fun with the process,” Rogers says of Warinner’s message to him. “No ‘come up and visit.’ Anything I need help with, he’s like, ‘I’m a phone call away. Just reach out and talk to me.’”
********************
“The schools that are looking at me – I wanna say Georgia, Clemson, Alabama, USC, Tennessee, Michigan, Ohio State, Penn State – I could keep going,” Rogers said. “I just feel like I’m gonna take my time with it, for real. Ain’t no rush. I’m just gonna wait until the last minute to make a decision.”

Feeding his family? Nice get Georgia
September 11th, 2018 at 5:19 PM ^
So who will be eating his family?
September 11th, 2018 at 7:51 PM ^
Urban Meyer's next WR coach. But Urbs will forget all about it after a week so it'll be like it never happened. He'll say he's sorry for the situation he's in but not the man who's family got eaten by a cannibal on his staff.

I thought OGs were OT if they weren't OTs.
September 11th, 2018 at 8:18 PM ^
OT season is over

This explains our tackle recruiting failures.

Anything I need help with, he’s like, ‘I’m a phone call away. Just reach out and talk to me.’”
I do not want this kind of activity in the Michigan football program. Sounds extremely suspicious from a kid who said he's looking to feed his family.
September 11th, 2018 at 5:12 PM ^
Nah, Michigan should just blatantly pay the kid. Then when the NCAA says "Hey, you can't do that!" Michigan should just say "Fuck off". And then the NCAA will say "Okay".
September 11th, 2018 at 5:22 PM ^
I would hate to be a MAC team in Michigan after that happens.....
September 11th, 2018 at 5:26 PM ^
Or the NCAA sets up camp outside your door like Ole Miss and the program suffers immensely.
Edit: I want the athletes to be paid, but didn't we learn anything from the Chris Weber saga?
September 11th, 2018 at 5:52 PM ^
Honestly, I know it wouldn't be this simple, but I would love for a school like Michigan to just say "Yeah, we're paying the players, just like all our peers and if you'd like to try and stop us go for it."
September 11th, 2018 at 8:00 PM ^
I mean the difference between Michigan and Ole Miss is the fact that Michigan is a blue blood, and blue bloods get away with a lot more... or at least they do in the SEC
September 11th, 2018 at 10:39 PM ^
Cmon, get it right. The NCAA has already shown it's ok to pay the player's father just not the player.
September 11th, 2018 at 10:24 PM ^
Yeah, we learned that cooperating with an NCAA investigation is for suckers.
September 12th, 2018 at 2:54 AM ^
These kids get money on top of the scholarship. I’m not sure most here really know how it works. Said kid gets $600 a month as part of his scholarship, but after his freshman year his stipend can go up to say $1500 a month if he moves off campus. 4 players in a nice house is $6000 and the rent is $2000. Do the math.
im telling u it’s not as bad as people think it is in terms of money. These kids gets lots of expensive perks that the public does not know.
September 11th, 2018 at 5:49 PM ^
Let's take it more out of context...
"Have...the...phone...just...talk to me. The schools that are looking at me-I wanna say....Michigan. I just feel like I'm gonna...rush... I'm just gonna...make a decision."
September 11th, 2018 at 5:58 PM ^
That's some fantastic character assassination right there.
September 11th, 2018 at 6:13 PM ^
Bad joke.
September 11th, 2018 at 7:27 PM ^
You’re getting what you deserve. Unbelievable.
September 11th, 2018 at 8:33 PM ^
georgia jokes aside. You don't think "feed my family" could mean best way to the NFL?
September 11th, 2018 at 5:14 PM ^
He commits to Michigan, or he's dead to me.
September 11th, 2018 at 6:41 PM ^
WTF? Not sure if this is meant to be sarcastic, but it missed the mark.
September 11th, 2018 at 5:17 PM ^
Pay the kids family if that is what he wants. I don't find that immoral when all of our competition is doing it.
September 11th, 2018 at 5:20 PM ^
It's only immoral if you get caught.
September 11th, 2018 at 7:47 PM ^
Per the other story a few down, it might be immoral to NOT pay the kid’s family since UM football supposedly netted $50m per year ...
September 11th, 2018 at 5:19 PM ^
Cool. So how is offensive tackle recruiting going??
September 11th, 2018 at 5:22 PM ^
It is promising that he has quietly taken couple trips to campus recently.
September 11th, 2018 at 6:44 PM ^
Wow, that is great, are you sure about that as I didn't see the mineral king thread on it.
September 11th, 2018 at 5:23 PM ^
I thought I was going to see Sky Panther as the op.
September 11th, 2018 at 8:37 PM ^
It is Sky Panther. This time WD just used his original account.
September 11th, 2018 at 6:39 PM ^
Wow, I hope he doesn’t read MGoBlog. What if he means he wants to go to a school that can get him to the next level, thus large paychecks and feeding his family. Then again you guys are persuasive. If we have learned anything this offseason it’s that rules only apply for Ole Miss and nobody else... send money now.
September 11th, 2018 at 7:02 PM ^
This is simply really good news all the sarcasm and bs aside.
Regardless if we get him or not it shows Warriner has a nice touch with the kids and an ability at building trust. Justin had a sour taste for UofM so this was not an easy approach shot. Sounds like we are on the green. Not putting for dough.
Improved line play and a Big Ten Championship sure would help as well.
September 11th, 2018 at 7:12 PM ^
I hope Danielson Ike comes on board to be with Ed Warinner.
September 11th, 2018 at 7:19 PM ^
He is a giant.
September 11th, 2018 at 7:35 PM ^
Sure is. Warinner is 6’7”.
September 11th, 2018 at 7:20 PM ^
Ike, or Benhart. We gotta land one...
September 11th, 2018 at 8:59 PM ^
Or Keegan.
September 12th, 2018 at 12:19 AM ^
In reality, we need all three
September 12th, 2018 at 9:02 AM ^
Hudson, Mayfield, Hayes, Jones...all outstanding prospects with 3-4 years of eligibility remaining after this season. Fine, bring in one more if you wish...3???
September 11th, 2018 at 7:18 PM ^
Newsome would be a great mentor for Rogers to get to know.
September 11th, 2018 at 7:27 PM ^
2020, man.
September 11th, 2018 at 8:40 PM ^
You contribute nothing, man
September 12th, 2018 at 12:29 PM ^
Stop bullying me.
September 11th, 2018 at 7:48 PM ^
Does anyone else get the feeling that Karlaftis will start to really open up his recruitment with Purdue starting 0-2 and losing to a MAC team?
September 11th, 2018 at 8:52 PM ^
So sick of this generation. A coach has to blow the kid and offer free stuff just to get them to visit.
September 11th, 2018 at 8:58 PM ^
Or you're Wisconsin and settle for 2* and 3* players and coach them up to be 4* and 5* equivalents.
September 12th, 2018 at 9:49 AM ^
You aren't from around here are ya boy? *spoken in a bad impersonation of a heavy southern accent*
September 11th, 2018 at 8:56 PM ^
There isn’t a determining factor as of current that Rogers is looking for, but one thing is absolutely key to him: academics. He’s confident that, wherever he goes, he’ll be a factor on the football field. So, he’s adamant about finding a place that allows him to pursue paths outside of football.
So, he'll ultimately be signing with Alabama?
