2018-19 Michigan Night Game Update

Submitted by Ma1zeandB1ue on

Michael Spath tweeted this a little while ago. Looks like MSU, Nebraska, and PSU are the front-runners for night games this year.

I am not sure how much new information is here but this was news to me (albeit not that surprising).

Spath also said Michigan and ND would play an outdoor hockey game.

That’s not happening and there wasn’t any mention of it in either team’s schedule release. ND’s says both games will be played at their home arena.

As far as this goes, not surprised.

The game last year set a (bad) precedent for future Michigan-MSU games to be at night.

Nebraska was already a clue based on the Maize Out being on the tickets.

PSU I’ll believe when I see it. Warden said there would only be 1 night game at home this year since last year we had 2.

this is from the press release on mgoblue.com

One change has been made to the conference schedule. Instead of the Maize and Blue traveling to South Bend, Indiana, for a weekend series against Notre Dame on Jan. 4-5, the teams will play only one game that weekend. Michigan will travel to South Bend for the Jan. 5 contest against the Fighting Irish, while the second game of the series is now scheduled for Tuesday, Feb. 12.

I wasnt referring to our chances of winning (although my memory of our night game performance is different than yours obviously....Iowa (cough, cough), Penn State (cough, cough), Notre Dame.....

I was referring to the prospect of 75,000 or so wacked-out, drunken jugallos vs advances in western civilization.

That's because you're old and your memory is starting to go. We are 20-12 all time in road night games. We are 4-1 in home night games.

Yeah, my advice is just don't go. Watch this one from your couch. I've gone to a day game at EL, it's not a pretty sight, so I would certainly not recommend a night contest.

As an honorary old man I agree.

Get back way too late. And if it’s a loss? Yikes.

Worst experience ever was that MSU game last year. From the amount of people clogging up the roads because they don’t even have tickets but just want to run around and act a fool to the being rained on in my face as JOK gave away the game.

Only good night game experience I’ve had was 2014 and even then, there was a student section planned walkout that didn’t happen so times were not good.

Prime for what?

My prime will be when I'm fully established and am a home owner. I got my degree this past spring and the real world struggle has begun. At least 1/3 of my season ticket goals have been fulfilled with MBB tickets.

What exactly is a "reasonable time"?  Do you have to be somewhere early on Sunday morning, like work or church?

Personally, I don't do anything on Sunday morning except sleep, so I don't really care how late the game goes if I'm watching it on TV.  But I can understand parents not wanting their kids up till the middle of the night for the game.

3:30 and evening games also work better for me because I have a family, oddly enough, and especially if I am going by myself because then I've had the day with them at least. I am also not a morning person, so it is a real drag to get to a noon game, and for noon games, the only thing I want is coffee. Later on in the day, I am all on board with full-on tailgating.
