2016 Michigan Football Uniform Concept

Submitted by markp on

3/31 UPDATE: Here

First things first, it's VERY simple, so unless you care about the minutia of uniforms, you may not notice anything new or different.

For the rest of us, here's my concept based on Nike's Mach Speed template:

(click for full-size)

The details:

  • Keep it simple!
  • Jumpman and B1G logos balanced and visible, but not too pronounced
  • Clear sternum (NC, CFP, bowl patch would go here)
  • Modernized font similar to last week's twitter leak (extremely similar to Oregon State)
  • Same pants as 2015, but following lines of Nike Mach Speed template
  • Maize drop shadow on away numbers
  • Maize cuffs and collar on away

Takeaways:

  • It was difficult to find tiny ways to change the uniform that pay enough repsect to the absurdly long-standing traditions of the program.
  • After playing with all the options, I've come to realize I like the 2015 away pants a lot and I hope we keep the design.
  • A modernized font will look cool and not gaudy if the rest of the uniform is grounded well enough.
  • Hat-tip to two users from Sportlogos.net for the template - here

What are you hoping to see in the fast-approaching new uniforms?

(to shadow banned idiot) What's awesome is no one can see your comment unless you have the app. So you're such an obsessed loser that in between your shift at Wendy's, you downloaded an app of a team you supposedly dislike and use it even after you got banned, despite only 5% being able to see your waste of air. Drop your phone in the deep fryer and go grab it with two hands. That would be great.

He is a guy who lives on a oceanfront lot in Emerald Isle, NC that when he gets bored loves to remind the UM alum and fans that they are losers rooting for losers, which the facts support. Not that any of you care about facts. So now you don't have to guess.

no thank you for robot/computer font numbers, and no thank you for yellow/maize shading of the away #'s.

and i should add, i'm wary of anyone who's art work says its from 'bucksfans' in small print at the top.

Love the simple, sharp look of the all blue numbers from last year's away unis.  That is the one thing that Adidas got right in all the years we had them.  For anyone that grew up on LI, the shade of maize pictured looks like an old LILCO truck.

I want the same damn home design, but with better materials (the form fitting, modern jerseys, not mesh) and a new, yet classic and minimalist away jersey design. I like your mock ups, but I'm sure Nike/Jordan will knock it out of the park. They have one chance to do the first football jumpman jerseys the right way.

I'm gonna piss blood and rage if they change the jersey number font and wordmark.

The wordmark is perfect and the jersey numbers have been the same since the 60s.

That is literally perfect. There's no need to touch it.

Just get the Jumpman logo on there and we're good.

Not only does it look great, been around forever but I have spent countless hours using that font on every page as the heading for every SuperGuide. Every sport.

That would almost be a bigger pain the ass to have to change than when we dumped highlighter Maize this past year. That took almost a week and a half to fix.

I think you shouldn't go back and change the font on previous pages in the SuperGuide. Just start using the new font and roll with it. Then later in life when your flipping through your books you will just run into the change.

Because what if they change it again in 10 or 20 years..

Because of this...I hope they change everything and announce it on August 1.

Then for the first game, I hope we come out wearing exactly what we all know, love and expect after the month long freakout and WD feverishly changing everything in his guide.

I'm evil.

But not Pop Evil.

Superstar M54 is a pretty generic "college" font. I like it too, but a subtle change to make it more unique for Michigan is not a big deal.

The constant pushback against every minute detail that goes against the tradition of Michigan is very tired at this point. Everything is a tradition...until it's not. The font has changed before and it will change again.

Honestly, I wouldn't care one way or the other as long as we win. They could use Roman or Mayan numerics for all I care.

However, looking at this font straight, it looks real odd. Like a cross between cursive and block numbers. They should go one way or the other (preferably block bc they have always looked amazing and I don't want to be UCLA)

As long as the uni's don't have that goofy belly patch like most of the Nike uni's have. One of the last things needing accentuating on a football player is their belly.

I made some potential t-shirt designs we could see.

This one below is based on the practice t-shirts all the Nike schools had in 2015
