2015 QB Josh Rosen offered

Submitted by Michigan Eaglet on
Michigan has offered 2015 QB Josh Rosen from California. He was recently ranked the second overall Pro style QB by 247 and 5th ranked player overall in their new 2015 early rankings. Article is paywalled, but the info is in the title. It looks like the coaches will be taking a different approach to the quarterback position in the 2015, and Rosen is a stud that would not only help us in California, but he is also another top prospect that could have an impact like Peppers hopefully will. http://michigan.247sports.com/Article/Josh-Rosen-Offer-Reaction-131680 Highlights: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XkqvKxW7uoA

Stanford and Cal, apparently. Cal fans think they'll get him, but they're a generally delusional bunch. Still, likes the northern California schools, and all things being equal would prefer a spread team.

EDIT: should note that it's unclear who will get the 2015 QB offer from Stanford (or even whether an elite QB will be interested in Stanford if Keller Chryst commits) between Town, Rosen, and the other 2015 QBs camping at Stanford.

...interesting.  Right?  Has Michigan offered Jayru?  Has Ohio State offered him?

btw, in the other news from the state Regional track meet at Grosse Pointe South where Delano Hill blazed to a record 10.81 100 meters, Jayru Campbell was placing well in the 110 hurdles and qualifying for the State Championship in the 300 intermediate hurdles.

(You gotta love Cass Tech's 800 meter relay team: Delano Hill, Damon Webb, Antone Price, Daquan Pace.  Delano Hill is on his way to Michigan's defensive backfield; Webb will be in Ohio State's defensive backfield, Pace will play for Eastern Michigan.)

I know you're not comparing Malzone to Rosen or Dillman or anyone like that (just Campbell), but Rosen is way out of Malzone and Campbell's league.  If Michigan is going to pursue the best of the best at the QB position, then Malzone/Campbell ought to be a ways down in the pecking order.

Malzone looks to me like a guy who might end up with lower tier Big Ten offers - like Michigan State - but if Michigan goes that route at any point, it's likely because they whiffed on the big-time guys.

Thoughts exactly. I'm expecting them to go hard after the California kids. But as far as just in-state kids, I wanted to let the other poster know some like malzone more. Campbell has gotten all the hype, but I still expect him to be in the 3 star range. I think its clear hoke is going to shoot for a blue chip kid first tho.

247 does not have the 2015 rankings up on their website yet. Do you happen to know when they will post them? (Edit: It looks like they will release the Top247 on Wednesday.) Do you know if they are currently posted anywhere on the web?

Are they most always a bust? Not being a jerk, it seems like a lot of people say it is. MGohighschoolrecruitfollowers?

People say Cass kids are underachievers because they never seem to be a stud on the field at the collegiate level. For the most part we are talking about Defensive guys though. I think the feeling is (especially if you watch film) hat hey are superior athletes in high school, but often they lack technique and mechanics. I really believe some of this is changing at Cass, although Jayru also has fairly poor mechanics for such a successful QB. Some of those things will come with age and experience. Since the school has created a monopoly on talent within the city (do to four factors; prestige, new facilities, state titles and great academics) it seems as though the student athletes coming out of CT today will be much better prepared for college then they were six or seven years ago. Again just my personal opinion but hat is the vibe I get from other coaches.

How exactly does this show that the coaches are taking a different approach to QB in 2015 (relative to a few previous years)?

Not reallu sure about 2013 because Shane Morris had been comitted for so long.

2014:  IIRC, didn't offer any QB until Feb. 2013.  Speight got offered on Feb 6th and I think he committed on signing day for class of 2013.

2015:  Josh Rosen gets offered on May 20th 2013.  The coaches have offered a QB about 9 months earlier for the class of 2015.

It is still unknown, but I'm guessing we offer more than 1 QB in the 2015 cycle.

I think it depends more on the QB talent in each class and the general interest in Michigan from top QBs. With Morris he was the type of player they wanted and they had a lot of interaction with him since he was from the area so they felt comfortable pulling the trigger early with an offer. 2014 is supposedly a down year for top QB talent so I think they wanted to wait and evaluate their top options longer before they offered.

I dont know anything about the 2015 class but if 247 has Rosen ranked top 5 overall and he plays at a school the coaches are familiar with from their days at SDSU, they probably felt good about offering. It also helps with some kids to get in early with an offer, especially a kid from farther away.

Wow that kid looks really, really good on tape. Poised in the pocket, quick ass release, strong arm, accurate, can look off coverage and check down, is a great athlete and can move.  Best QB prospect that I have seen on tape recently.  He could easily be a top dual threat or pro style QB. and he will be a perfect fit at Michigan.
