there is something wrong with schedule. It doesn't have Michigan away from home for several weeks towards the end of the season.

Two home games between Dec. 12 and March 4.  Is there a home non-conference series in there somewhere?

EDIT: I see below that we have Ferris at home on Feb. 19.  So that's three home games in about three months.  Awesome.

Here is Michigan's non-conference schedule. Which is awful.

  • 10/23 at Union
  • 10/24 at RPI
  • 11/27 vs Dartmouth
  • 11/28 vs Dartmouth
  • 12/29 NMU (GLI)
  • 12/30 Tech/State (GLI)
  • Home series with Robert Morris
  • Home series with Mercyhurst
  • Home series with Niagara
  • Road series with Boston University

The Niagara fixation lately is strange to me.

I'm really curious to see the turnout for the B1G Day games with PSU.

Specifically the Hockey game at MSG.

Michigan's schedules are so boring sans-CCHA. Rarely a good non-conference series and it's really more interesting to play the Fighting Northerns or the Fighting Ricos than it is to play Wisconsin or Minnesota. I regret the Big Ten

I wish the Big Ten could have done some sort of challenge in the non-conference while keeping the WCHA and CCHA the same as it is. I like to see us play Minnesota in particular just because they are usually good and it feels like a huge game, but I'd be fine with playing them once or twice, not four times a year.

I suppose we all know why this happened but I agree. When everyone was in the WCHA they used to just have formal/informal Big Ten standings within and that seemed like a cool thing to do but that's long gone. The showcase was a mini version of that but it was always over Thanksgiving so no one was there to see it.

I wish we could do the State of Michigan Cup that Brian proposes or at least fill our non-con schedule with Michigan schools, but I think we burned a lot of bridges with the Michigan schools in how we left for the Big Ten. I think they felt slighted by it plus the rumors that Michigan has since demandied 2-for-1's, so it's not surprising that we're getting a middle finger at the moment. Everyone in the old CCHA has been suspiciously absent with the exception of Ferris. Sad. I miss the CCHA rivals.

I do, but I also blame the Big Ten for thinking six teams is some magic number to start a conference. The TV money I'm sure is good and I would hope the smaller Michigan and CCHA schools would realize that... It's not like we were the only ones to jump ship. I can understand the 2 for 1 outrage.

The state of Michigan cup would be a good alternative as those are the only CCHA schools I care about playing, besides Alaska just because, Alaska, and possibly Notre Dame since I like playing rivals in general. I would think the cup idea could have some appeal to the GLI organizers especially when the new Wings arena opens... Maybe they can expand it off of that.

This is the dumbest Dave Brandon complaint I've ever seen. How the fuck can you blame DB for the Pegula family donating the money to PSU for a hokey program that in turn lead to the addition of hockey as a Big Ten sport?? Listen I hate DB as much as the next guy but this is just stupid.
I also highly doubt DB was doing much demanding when it came to hockey schedules (let's not forget that Tech hadn't been to Yost in forever)

I'm not blaming him for the B1G because that makes no sense since it was going to happen eventually.

I'm blaming him for burning bridges with the other CCHA schools.

It's either that or he completely neglected the scheduling aspect of his job because no one in their right mind would actually want to have 3 series with AHA schools on their schedule.

What did he do to "burn the bridges" other than packing up and leaving the ccha which wasn't his decision in the first place? Ferris has been on the schedule last two years. Tech (I know not ccha) was on schedule last year (can't remember if they were the year before or not). LSSU and nmu may be upset about the move and refuse to schedule Michigan. I've never thought of WMU as a rivalry but wouldn't hate a series.

Not schedule related, and technically not Michigan related, but USA Hockey president Ron DeGregorio is stepping down 6/6/15 and USA Hockey will be electing its fifth president that day. DeGregorio has led USA Hockey for twelve years, and IMHO has had an outstanding tenure. One very relevant bullet point for Michigan: he's the guy that started the USNTDP.

Sorry for hijacking, but an OP about this would get about four comments. Here's an article from USCHO.
