They could fill them with transfers this year if they wanted to, but most likely will end up going to a walkon or two who have done well in camp.
..too well. It's usually pretty hard for UofM to get transfers into the program because of the strict (and rightfully so) admissions. Transfers from other BCS schools I think would have a better chance of gaining admission, but JUCO transfers have a difficult time with it.
Any unused scholarships will be given to walk-on for the 2010 season. Guys like Long Snapper Primarco, DE Heinenger (if he is healthy enough to play), special teams regulars like T. Anderson, Zach Johnson, and Van Slyke (all Jrs who have been on the team for 2 or more years) would all be deserving of a free ride in 2010.
Those scholarships can be used in the class of 2011, provided Jones and Kinard don't enroll in the winter.
Here's a post from my blog with the scholarships laid out. We should have about 17 scholarships for the 2011 class, plus any attrition between now and then:

Nice read! Thanks for the info!
Magnus, I thought RichRod said that Kovacs would be getting a scholarship. Is this not right? And if not, wouldn't he be first in line for one of these open ones?
He did say that. I thought I already included Kovacs. Thanks for catching it.
