100 (Or More) Reasons We Love the Big House

Submitted by Enjoy Life on
If all you want to do is "watch" the game, probably the best spot would be sitting in front of your big screen HD TV with the DVR. I always prefer to actually be at the Big House. I'm sure I could come up with my own list of 100 reasons but it is always more interesting to see what the MGoBlog Community thinks. To make it a little more interesting, let's do this in kind of chronological order: pre-game first, followed by the game, half-time, and then post-game (but, of course, feel free to post ideas as they come to you). I'll start: #1: Tailgating with family and friends before the game. (Michigan football has definitely brought my family closer together and means I see family and friends more often than I would otherwise.) #2: Arriving in the stadium early enough to see Michigan warmups. #3: Watching the circle of Death Unity.

# 8- The Michigan Stadium wave # 9- The one central tunnel that allows Michigan to run out from there and tap the banner. #10- The eagle on the press box. #11- The art deco lettering on the press box.

The smell. Just, the smell. Leaves, crisp air, hot dogs broiling, whiffs of smuggled in booze staining #20 jerseys, mushy grass from people scampering up the hills and making it muddy, sunshine on co-eds faces, belches of beers from tailgates, a distant sniff of bar-b-que from the golf course ... memories, dude.

#15 - The bandleader doing the reverse forehead plant, or whatever it's officially called (backbend?). #16 - Inflatable penises with "Tressel loves me" written on them in sharpie being tossed about the student section during the M-OSU game.

Looks great on TV, expecially in November when I'm toasty warm on my couch and they show some guy at the stadium in a sweatshirt about to croak from Hypothermia. But seriously--It is a fantastic TV stadium and this year seems a LOT louder.

Sitting in my same seats for the last 13 seasons, having the same people around meet my parents, my girlfriend (who became my wife), saw her pregnant with our children and now know the children who come with us to every game. Aaaand, watching a quality football program win games and play the right way.

#22 - The sonorous voice of Carl Grapertine floating through the seats as he bids you "Good afternoon, and welcome to Michigan Stadium." #23 - the right corner of the north end zone, home of Desmond's catch, Mercury's catch, and the Braylon Edwards show.

As much as I love Carl... I really miss hearing Howard King welcoming me to "the Michigan Football Stadium for this the XXth meeting between Michigan and (opponent)." I guess in my mind, Carl will always be the voice of the Band, and Howard King will always be the voice of the Stadium. Although they couldn't find a better replacement for the whole deal than Carl.

I love seeing it on TV and can't wait to see it for the first time. I am planning on coming with my brother to the 2011 OSU game and I will be on pins until then. The only thing I can say I don't like about the Big House.....Is that it is 2000 miles from my home, other than that, it sounds like perfection to me.

#31 Drumline step show #32 Band marching off to the stadium with a sea of humanity following it. #33 The team running out of the tunnel and touching the GO BLUE banner. #34 The roar of the crowd when the PA announcer gives the out-of-town scores and a rival is losing.
