John E. Hoover: It’s time for Bob Stoops to go
in case you were wondering if he was a viable plan B, or if you thought Michigan had the nuttiest mofos

Stoops has accomplished a lot, but he is not at the same level he once was. Last year's bowl win over Alabama was great, but looks more and more like an exception to his coaching acumen over the past several years.

Stoops is a great coach. As we found with Lloyd Carr, sometimes, you don't know what you've got until you don't have it anymore.
I have no doubt that Stoops would be a success somewhere else. Dude is one of the elite coaches and would have been one hell of a Plan B.

while he was still here. Aside from the 2006 season, his last six years, he mailed it in.

since that 2003 B12 championship game where so much of the press had already guarenteed that Oklahoma would be in the National Title game win or lose and they laid an ugly egg against K-State.
Stoops is still young, though...perhaps it is time for him to move on somewhere else.

I know they're on the hook for a ton of money to Ferentz, but Stoops would be a huge hire and would raise the profile of the program tremendously. For Stoops it would be a return to his alma mater and would put him in a job that is probably less stressful than OU in a very winnable BIG west division.

Apparenty can't upvote over here... but I hadn't even thought of this and it would be a great idea for Iowa - especially in light of coaching transitions at Wisconsin and Nebraska the next few years. They should absolutely do this. Too bad they're Iowa, so they won't...
