What happened to Mike Weber is not unique.  It also happened at Notre Dame, Texas and UCLA.  In fact, Urban Meyer is trying to poach ND's RB coach/ace recruiter to replace Stan Drayton.

Mike Weber is not blameless in this.  He had weeks if not months to make his decision.  If he was still conflicted, he should have postponed his decision.  Weber's parents and Thomas Wilcher didn't help matters any either.  They are playng Monday morning QB.  Where were they when Weber was making his decision?

No matter where Weber ends up, he is in for a rude awakening when he shows up to campus and is treated like just one of the other freshmen scholarship players.

It was not unique... except to Mike Weber.  Why do you insist on blaming a 17 y.o. kid in this situation?  He wasn't getting true information from a coach that he had developed a relationship with over those months.  What is MMQB about reacting after the coach left?  There was no indication of that when he signed his LOI.

Also, way to class it up with BEWBS!

Whatever we think doesn't matter. Coaches were important to Mike Weber, especially coaching stability, hence why he dropped Michigan down. Then OSU does this? The timing of Drayton leaving was too convenient. I'd think being honest and forthright with a 17 year old should be more important than getting him to sign.

As many have mentioned, a LOI is a really bad thing too.

He could have postponed his decision, yes, but I don't know if the average recruit really is aware of all of his options.  Most are in a rush to declare on Signing Day.  Part of that is that schools need to fill up their slots, too, so a spot might not be there forever.

I assign far more blame to OSU's staff - a bunch of grown men - for just plain lying to him about the coach being there.

...implying that Wilcher believes that OSU misled Weber when that quote was an answer to the question if Wilcher himself was misled by OSU.  Then again, what else would we expect from the beacon of journalistic ethics?
