WBB Big Ten Tourney preview (first two rounds)

How did Michigan get here?: After a lackluster season, Michigan sits at 9-9 in the conference and 6th place thanks to winning the tiebreaker against two teams with identical B1G records. They beat Penn State to win that tiebreaker and went 1-1 against Maryland, but Michigan beat Ohio State once, who Maryland lost to twice. At least I think that’s how the tiebreaker described here works: B1G Women's Basketball Tournament Tiebreaker

Michigan game 1: Michigan will play the winner of Minnesota vs Rutgers at about 9pm on Thursday 3/7, broadcast on Big Ten Network. Rutgers finished at the bottom of the B1G with a 2-16 record due in large part to a season-ending injury to their leading scorer Kaylene Smikle and also due to them being Rutgers. However, one of those two B1G wins was over Minnesota on 2/13. After starting B1G play 4-3, Minnesota lost 10 of 11 to finish at 5-13 overall, just ahead of Purdue because Minnesota beat them for their Big Ten opener. Minnesota also lost their top scorer Mara Braun in January. She is out indefinitely and had surgery on her foot, so probably done for the season. Michigan beat Rutgers twice and should be able to beat Minnesota sans Braun.

Potential game 2: On Friday, Michigan would play the third seed Indiana at about 9pm on BTN. Indiana finished 15-3 in the Big Ten with losses to Ohio State, Illinois, and Iowa. Indiana was ranked 14th in the NCAA’s top 16 seeds on 2/29 and is looking at hosting the first two rounds of March Madness if they can maintain that 4 seed. Michigan lost to Indiana back on 1/4 and beating them will be a tough ask even if Indiana is without WNBA prospect Mackenzie Holmes, who exited their final regular season game on Sunday with a knee injury. She was able to walk under her own power, but there is not likely to be any indication about her status before Indiana takes the floor on Friday.

Missed the WBB part and was all like:

     What?!

     What's going on here?!

     What the frick?!

Double checked date before the realization kicked in and had to go find my Chris Webber 9FIFTY; and just like that it was back to reality....  ;'D

Iowa, Indiana and OSU are clearly the cream of the crop in the B1G. Any of them could win the conference tournament although the Target Center will be "Carver-Hawkeye North" full of Iowa fans. I'm rooting for and picking Iowa--they are really coming together as the season progresses. P.S. Personally I am wayyyy more excited for the women's conference and NCAA tournaments than for the men's.

To make a good run we would need M to get hot and it just doesn't feel like they've been heating up.

They are what they are.  Which is a decent-to-good team, no shame in that, but it's all contenders from here.
